Hackers raid Paris Hilton mobile for pics

INDIATIMES NEWS NETWORK[ MONDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2005 06:32:42 PM]

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eminem, Vin Diesel, Christina Aguilera, Lindsay Lohan and Anna Kournikova are currently hopping mad with Paris Hilton. And they have enough reasons to vent their ire at the socialite and hotel heiress Hilton.

Last weekend, the private telephone numbers of these celebrities were unleashed on the Internet after a hacking group, who refer to themselves as 'The Niggas at DFNCTSC', broke into hotel heiress Hilton's T-Mobile Sidekick and posted the numbers over the weekend, along with an offensive message on a website.

Apparently, the group of hackers cracked a pass code to get access to the 24-year-old's phone.

Consequently, they managed to lay their hands on the phone’s address book, along with e-mail addresses and private diary notes including road directions, hotel and airline preferences made their way onto the Web. Further, it is said that the geeks also managed to retrieve private photos from Hilton's T-Mobile Sidekick.

A smartphone, the Sidekick has a built-in VGA camera with flash; world phone; speakerphone; keyboard; e-mail and IM functionality. Although it is slightly on the heavier side and has Bluetooth or infrared facility, this smartphone is perfect for chatterboxes, shutterbugs and storing contacts and events.

While the FBI has already opened an investigation into the hack, most of the celebrities whose privacy have been trampled with, have scurried to get their numbers changed.

Hilton’s smartphone, with its slim screen, built-in camera and a capacity of storing 2,000 contacts, has made the private details of celebrities’ lives public.

This is the second time that the hotel heiress’ privacy has been attacked, after her infamous sex tape with an ex-boyfriend made ripples across cyberspace last year.

While celebs have been left dumbstruck by the whole episode, experts believe that the hackers, led by Nicolas Jacobsen (who had been charged in October for raiding the Sidekick files of celebrities) had access to all the Sidekick related boxes at T-Mobile, which Hilton subscribes to.

This in turn means that Jacobsen and his ilk were privy to all the pictures, messages, stored e-mails and customer passwords and social security numbers. In addition, he had access to some US Secret Service emails as well.

While one unidentified celebrity ranted at the loss of privacy, ”I gave her my number after we met in Miami; I did not know she b**** kept it on her cellphone!”, the mobile subscriber is yet to issue any release over the episode.

The link seems to have been removed by some moderator, as per the topic, the link seems to contain objectionable pictures, which shouldn't be posted in a public forum like RIMweb !
