me_saket 73 Report post Posted October 6, 2011 MTS is providing higher speed bcoz of LOW network usage. once they reach level of that of PHOTON+ or rcom BB+, then speed will go down. bcoz Even verizon claim in USA that user will get average speed of 600-1200kbps pssed on EVDO with REV A. I do remeber When photon+ was launched in city, i was used to get speed of 2.4mbps, which now comes down to 1mbps. Same will happen with MTS. once more user latch to MTS for EVDO @ Rs98, speed will be big issue.
sougatadc 358 Report post Posted October 6, 2011 ^^^ Dear Saket The thread you referred above was initiated by me. The Rs. 43/ Rs. 94 packs for 2GB/5GB are wap packs only. They are not at all EVDO (HSIA) packs. On 1X, these packs can give full html support on Windows mobile, but on androids these don't support google products- no gmail, no google maps, no market etc. So these packs are not at all comparable with the one MTS is offering for Rs. 97.99. me_saket 73 Report post Posted October 7, 2011 i had used these pack on samsung corby handset on EVDO, ALSO checked on samsung GALAXY pop handset, EVDO. both working superb.
santanu@impaq 16 Report post Posted October 7, 2011 Dear Sougata The Rs. 43/ Rs. 94 packs for 2GB/5GB WAP pack work on EVDO also. Since in your area EVDO has not been deployed by TATA so you are getting 1X only. In any case wap does not serve the purpose since google service with SSL will not work through wap proxy gateway. MTS cc is also not very good and the current EVDO speeds are high due to less subscribers. Consider a scenerio where more that 100 subscribers are connected to a single tower availing the 97.99 offer. What would be the average speeds then??? sougatadc 358 Report post Posted October 7, 2011 Dear Santanu, I didn't know that the TataZone wap packs work on EVDO. But in any case these are useless on the handsets we are using as these cannot support google products. In India, we are happily living with a dichotomy: on voice front, we are having the lowest tariff and on data front, the tariff is high along with low speed, low coverage of high speed data. And there are FUP, NUC blah..blah... When I subscribed BSNL's EVDO the speed was superb, but now it has dropped, but I'm using it as it is the only truely unlimited EVDO that costs me only Rs. 272/month. The operators can take the data users for granted only because the number of users are low and are not organised.
me_saket 73 Report post Posted October 7, 2011 @santanu you r right. @ sougata Enjoy MTS EVDO till tata EVDO comes to your town. May be some OPERATOR come up with REV B also.

inception 75 Report post Posted October 8, 2011 The fact is Tata is not going to invest huge on EVDO expansion. So @sougatdc keep using MTS. @saket & santanu@impaq >> I used MTS at my area (sub urban) and in Kolkata metro (near shyambazar) got almost similar speed. so +1 to MTS, Tata has lots of problem in Kolkata. But @saket u r in mumbai where Tata has great CDMA base!
mail_abhiks 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2011 I don't agree with you. Tata Indicom has fantastic coverage throughout Kolkata. Its network is superb in Kolkata.
sougatadc 358 Report post Posted October 8, 2011 @Rudradeep, thanks. @Abhishek (mail_abhiks), don't you consider Sodepur in Kolkata? Tata's signal falters there frequently. Also the coverage deteriorated like anything along the Haora-Santiniketan railway line. West Bengal is the only state where Tata is continuing to provide EVDO in a single city, that too in its capital, a metro city. I don't understand their business strategy. Aren't there sufficient prospective EVDO subscribers in Bardhaman, Durgapur, Asansol or Siliguri? Anyways, this is becoming off-topic.

How did you got your EVDO activated, kindly share and help me activate EVDO on my Mumbai nos. Thanks Edited November 15, 2011 by sunilj75
inception 75 Report post Posted November 27, 2011 guys... MTS introduced these data packs for mobile in such amounts because STVs worth Rs 90-99 are registered with other recharges. With these packs you can get 1x/EVDO network. To get EVDO speed, you need to use OMH RUIM and HSD VAS activated These data packs will give you 1X speed while OMH RUIM is used on modem. On MTS-BREW Opera Mini is not FREE, costs Rs 15/30, [Tata offers Opera Mini as free app on BREW, with Opera Mini I was able to browse internet.]

pabitrak5 7 Report post Posted December 16, 2011 dear freinds i have been using the data services of MTS for last two months the speed and coverage is good at home circle however on roaming the voice and data are available only in selected cities. its pathetic in roaming if MTS is your primary no, so my advice is if you roam a lot this is not a no. to keep, keep it only for data, thts ok ..please share your views on MTS roaming. regards pabitra
