MOBILE FAN 42 Report post Posted October 4, 2011 Today's ET, Pune edition, Page-5 Excerpt from the Q&A item under the title "RCOM Plans to Cut Debt by 50% Before March '13" (Interview with Syed Safawi - Rcom's president for wireless business) Q. 3 You have won 3G spectrum in some circles. Data uptake is increasing. Where do you stand on this front ?" Ans. This will be the decade of data. We will soon launch data cards that can work on both GSM and CDMA airwaves. Here the customer will not even be aware that they are switching between our 3G GSM networks and our EVDO CDMA offerings. Subscribers will enjoy hight speed data connectivity even outside the circles where we have 3G spectrum. We are also working with chipmaker Qualcomm and by March 2012, there will be handesets in the market will work on both GSM and CDMA technologies without having to go for two different SIMs.

anandjm 3 Report post Posted October 4, 2011 This has to do with the network rather than the SIM. The first SIM/RUIM I received from Tata Indicom when I took a CDMA connection way back in 2008 supported both CDMA and GSM networks. Except it would not work in India on GSM but would work abroad. I believe they used to call it the T-SIM. handset having single slot and accept both cdma ruim or gsm sim is seen. but single sim supporting both cdma and gsm network with single handset is still not available.
