Update: Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Samsung teases Nexus Prime in new video

Oh Samsung, you temptress. The rumored builder of Google’s next developer phone, the Nexus Prime, just posted this YouTube video featuring 27 seconds of boring and three seconds of jaw-dropping wow. At the end of the ad is what appears to be a profile view of the upcoming superphone, just before a plug for Samsung’s Mobile Unpacked event at CTIA.

First impressions: man, that is some serious screen curve. The last developer phone, Samsung’s Nexus S, also featured a screen with curved tempered glass, but the Nexus Prime looks like it takes the concave styling to a new level. If you look closely, you can see three gold-colored circles on the phone’s side, possibly electrical contacts for a dock, a la the original Nexus One. You can see that the phone has an exaggerated bulge on the back, much more pronounced than the various Galaxy S II models.

Rumored specs on the Samsung Nexus Prime include an HD 1280 x 720 screen, NFC and facial recognition capability, the latest dual-core processor and of course, the latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich. The as-yet-unnumbered software version will combine elements of Gingerbread and Honeycomb to create a unified Android platform. The preamble to Samsung’s video certainly seems to allude to some sweet food-based codenames. And if you think that it’s a coincidence that this preview came out the night of Apple’s iPhone 4S announcement, I’ve got some ocean-front property in Arizona to sell you.

Keep an eye on Android Community during CTIA for full coverage. The Samsung Unbox event – and hopefully the Nexus Prime unveiling – will be held next Tuesday, October 11th.

Samsung Nexus Prime 11 October Launch Postponed

Source

Pocket-lint has just learnt that the Samsung Unpacked 2011 event due to happen on 11 October in San Diego has been canned. And the planned unveiling of both Android Ice Cream Sandwich and the Samsung Nexus Prime is not going ahead.

We have received the following combined statement:

"Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced."

However, perhaps the drastic decision has been made out of respect for the sad passing away of long term rival and industry icon Steve Jobs. And, if so, Pocket-lint can fully understand; if, for example, the ex-Apple CEO's funeral is to be held around the same time, it may be insensitive to whip up a media frenzy over a competing device.

Here is the First Video of the Device..

5MP camera is disappointing; External sd card slot yet to be confirmed (most likely absent).

Even TI OMAP 1.2 Ghz Dual Core for a Flagship looks bit underwhelming.

Apart from display (and first ICS presence ofcourse), it is no way better than Motorola Droid-RAZR (7.1mm thin, 1780mAh battery, SuperAMOLED-advanced qHD display).... Link

they have kept the goodies for the SIII

but that doesn't makes nexus any less significant.

The processing power is good enuff, the s2 may rule, but hardware is not the point.

Look how amazing the screen will be! 316 ppi on a 4.65"!

Now that's awesome. The cam is disappointing tough.

just to clarify the barometer just helps in getting faster gps lock by specifying the altitude; it does NOT start giving hardware weather updates... lolz and it was first seen in the original xoom tab...

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Will See a Sprint Release

Source

Verizon is pretty much a lock for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and it’s a safe bet that AT&T and T-Mobile could also receive the handset. But what about Sprint? With no WiMAX version announced and Sprint’s LTE plans not quite ironed out, most though the carrier had a slim chance of getting a piece of the next Nexus. But that doesn’t seem to be the case, according to a purchase order handed over to our pals at BriefMobile. This lines up with what we have heard from our own Sprint insiders stating that the Galaxy Nexus is already entered into their computer systems.

Details are absent on when the Galaxy Nexus (here still listed as the Nexus Prime) will land on Sprint and how much it will cost, but the same goes for all US carriers. It is also unclear exactly which version of the handset the Now Network will receive.

I am not liking Nexus's shape. Too rounded. S2 little worse off; Motorola Photon is the sexiest of the lot, but photon may or may not get ice cream due to Moto's bad policies. All newer HTC and Sammy's will get it.

Imho, the main problem with curved displays in Nexus S and Prime is Gorilla-glass can't be used in them... Yes, Photon is the sexiest of current lot and it is much much more beautiful in real than in photos... It doesn't looks like 12mm thick, plus battery life and kick-stand are great, imho... I agree sir that, being a Moto device we may doubt the arrival of ICS to Photon, but I got Photon with hope that take over of Moto-Mobility by Google may bring ICS for sure, imho... Further the un-locked bootloader of Photon supports my guess...
