Staying As Renter - Want To Vote. How?

Recommended Posts

I am staying in Pune for past few years on rent, though my permanent address is of Thane. I am ashamed to say that I have never voted in any election yet :( I want to vote this time. Enough of idleness! I have few questions:

1. What is the general procedure to register yourself as a voter?

2. If I want to vote in Pune in my area, is it possible? What documents will be required from me?

If you have questions on voting too, please post in this thread. Lets vote and kick the scum out of office this time!

AFAIK

you need to have a voters ID card

you can vote only in area where you are registered in Ration card of Nigam

if you want to vote in another area you have to give them in written prior to election - time i don't know

___ PS i appreciate your sincerity in acceptation - seen all the time

As much I know, you need to be registered in the voter's list of the area where you want to vote (this is mandatory).

You are provided a voter ID card which shows that you are a resident of that area.

In addition to a voter ID card (issued for the same constituency where you are going to vote) you can show any of other documents as your identity/residence proof such as passport / ration card / driving license / office ID card issued by state/central office which shows you are resident of the same address against which you are registered in voter's list.

it's pretty easy to get the voter card. i am staying in rented property in delhi. and in past 5 years i have changed my constituency thrice with in delhi and every time i have got my voter card easily. documents i submitted for voter card was my PAN card as id proof. one passport size photo and copy of my airtel phone bill. after submission they send someone for the verfication and after 1 month they sent the Voter id card.

just check in your locality as well. you should be getting the voter card easily.
