Dish TV Launches Dish truHD+ With Unlimited Recording Capacity

Source

Dish TV India, the country’s largest direct-to-home service provider, announced the launch of Dish truHD+ with an unlimited recording capacity, at an unmatched price of Rs. 2690 for the consumers. The unique feature of Dish truHD+ is its compatibility with any USB device enabling consumers to simply plug and play an existing USB stick/ HDD, and build an entire library of their favorite programmes.

Dish truHD+ will have dual advantage of all HD and DVR features, at the price of existing HD box only! The price of 2690 includes the new Dish truHD+ box along with one month Dish truHD Royale Pack. Further, as a promotional offer Dish TV is providing a 4 GB USB drive free to get the user accustomed to the concept of plugging an external device to use the recording features. The DVR features include Record, rewind, forward, pause live TV etc. What’s more, subscribers can also enable time based and event based recording on the box.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. R.C Venkateish, Chief Executive Officer, Dish TV India said

“Carrying forward the spirit of innovation that is integral to the Dish TV DNA, DishtruHD+ is the answer to the consumer need for enjoying recording functionality at an affordable price. Whilst most DVR's charge a premium, our idea is to expand the DVR market by making it accessible at the price of a normal HD box. Furthermore, this box lends a huge advantage over other DVR's in the market by offering "unlimited recording capacity". This is possible due to a breakthrough technology that enables any external storage device to be plugged into the USB port of the Dish truHD+ box.

fake company

it's just HD box with USB port, and software update, which enable recording.

there is nothing in Set top box to record live content,

You need buy external USB pen drive or HDD to record.

compared to current tata sky +HD or airtel HD {DVR}, it no where in competiton.

-------------------------------------------------

Update regarding HD DVR

Airtel

1) lunached HD DVR with 500 GB capacity upgarded from old 320GB

2) Price revised upward to rs 6k with 1 month free pack

3) old 320GB price reduced for stock clearance by rs 300-400, so will cost rs 4190.

Tata sky

1) Price revised upward to rs 6k with 1 month free pack

2) Multi tv bonus of rs500 is discontinued for existing premium or mega pack subscribers.

very nice move... I think both Reliance Digital TV and Tata sky also can implement this feature through firmware updates as both have USB ports.

This is something amazing ! May be revolutionary.

Reason: No DVR is coming with attach-your-own HDD. There are reviews available on the net where people tried to fix their own HDD but it didnt work because of proprietary hardware. Secondly, no DVR has the capability to copy the recordings and they have their own filesystem which prohibit you to do the same. In this, since HDD is detachable and may be with knows file system, you can always do that. This opens up another possibility - play recordings on any machine, which is lacking in any other DVR.

Fake company ??? - How ? May be your perception. We used Dish for since 2002 before going to TATA Sky just 3 months back just because HD DVR was not available with Dish.

it's just HD box with USB port, and software update, which enable recording. - True. And no other company provides that facility because then they cannot loot you. This feature should be considered as revolutionary in that sense.

there is nothing in Set top box to record live content, - The first post states contrary to this. Have you checked the set top box on your own ?

You need buy external USB pen drive or HDD to record.- And that is the reason that the set top box is priced at Rs. 2690 unlike to Tata Sky or Airtel which are Rs. 6000 with Max 500 GB recording.

compared to current tata sky +HD or airtel HD {DVR}, it no where in competiton. - I agree. No offence, but this revolutionary product cannot match the tactics employed by Tata and Airtel. I have both of them. You cannot play a recording once you unsubscribe to the channel from where you recorded in these two.

Desclaimer : I am not employee, dealer or vendor of Dish. Neither I am holding any position in Dish TV through shares or Futures/Options. I am using Airtel DVR at Pune and Tata Sky HD+ at Ahmedabad.

very first thing

u cant watch file record from STB on ur computer, file system is totally different

secondly once ur subscription over, u wont able to watch previously recorded content store on ur HDD.

thirdly, u have to compulsorily watch recorded contains from one STB from where u have recorded, it is absolutely not possible to record on ur pen drive from ur STB and watch it on ut friends STB.

1st and 3rd point is also applicable with TS+ and ADTV.

-------------------------------------------------

company is making absolute fake marketing

There is compulsory additional cost of HDD and remote(for existing subsciber), but still company say "AT NO EXTRA COST""

agree TS, ADTV or other DTH may or may not enable USB port, so this way plus point for Dishtv

there is nothing in Set top box to record live content, - The first post states contrary to this. Have you checked the set top box on your own ?

means there is no HDD inside box, so need to buy HDD or pen drive.

Rs2690+ cost of 500GB HDD which comes appox cost of 6-7K, TS was selling STB last month at 4K only. and Dish tV STB support maximum HDD of 2TB only.

Do you mean even Dish would employ a FileSystem which cannot be read from Laptop/Computer ? If that is the case, then it is the same as other DVRs. But I think FAT32 would go with most of the portable devices. Plz. verify this because if Dish enables portability, its most desirable feature.

Your third point of portability - cannot plug the hdd to some other STB - are you sure about it ? Have you checked that ?

Just for your ref. NO DVR allows copy through USB.

I agree with your calculation.

Then the only advantage to move to this device is, if you already have a HDD then instead of going for SD set top box, one should go for HD one.

i mean remove HDD from STB and and then attach to pc, no need to copy from USB.

generally when u watch or record any channel on DTH, it capture and check ur subsciption with fixed interval of say 300-1200 seconds,

so when u record on ur pen drive this checking is also being recorded, so when u use with other STB then it create conflit and wont allow u.

just like once u replace a sim with damaged, signals wont come in old sim card, bcoz that sim number is not registed with there system, although u can manually search signal, but handset refused ti register u sim on that network

small corrections below:

i have TS+ and you can only use about 320 gb max for recording while the rest is reserved for VOD etc.

i have also watched recordings over a month after unsubscribing to a channel

but that maybe because i'm on ala carte instead of packages

Yes, it is true. The multimedia file recorded in the pendrive will not play in GOM player, VLC media player, windows media player, splash, digital media theater, power dvd, real player etc. Can not convert with converter softwares or video editing softwares. It is an unknown monopoly file format.
