kundalus 24 Report post Posted February 25, 2012 Hi guys, need a help. I 'm using gigabyte Gama785us2h motherboard & amd 550be 3.1 ghz cpu with ddr2 800mhz ram. It is am3 motherboard. On a bit of research i found out am3 socket boards support ddr3 but in website it shows only ddr2 is supported and no info on ddr3. Can anyone help to figure out if it does support ddr3 as im planning to upgrade ram. Is anyone using same mb? Also one variant of same motherboard says it supports ddr3. Honest 836 Report post Posted February 25, 2012 I don't think DDR3 could work with your motherboard. Your motherboard supports only : 667MHz DDR2 800MHz DDR2 1066MHz DDR2 1200MHz DDR2 (limited support)
kundalus 24 Report post Posted February 25, 2012 But this mb is am3+ and it was specially made to support ddr3 and phenom series proccy. M confused coz another 785g variant does support ddr3. Sent from my MB855
Honest 836 Report post Posted February 25, 2012 It is mentioned in the specifications of the motherboard that only DDR2 is supported. If any friend of yours have spare DDR3 then why don't give it a try before ordering the same ?
rajanmehta 4,056 Report post Posted February 25, 2012 If you are already using the motherboard, it's simple to find out even without checking the specs. There are few AM3 motherboard supporting both DDR2, DDR 3 but they have different memory slots as the key notch position in DDR 2 /3 memory module is different. So check your motherboard, if it has additional memory slot different from your existing DDR2 slot, it should support. Check these images
TechieGuy 1 Report post Posted February 25, 2012 One of my client have the same motherboard installed, it supports DDR2 type dimms only. May be you have different pin slot in your motherboard which. could accomodate ddr3 type dimms.
kundalus 24 Report post Posted February 27, 2012 Thnx @Honest sir, @Rajanbhai & Kamalbhaifor your help. The motherboard has only one slot and that is DDR2. I was thinking to upgrade RAM but DDR2 is costly.
