amtrag 20 Report post Posted February 28, 2012 (edited) London: Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has unveiled a new smartphone with an unprecedented 41-megapixel camera. The 450 Euros device, 808 PureView, runs on software that Nokia is reportedly phasing out in favour of the Windows Phone. The new smartphone, which was announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, is expected to launch in Europe in May, The Telegraph reports. With 41 MP, the phone is able to shoot images that Nokia claims can be printed in "poster size". Files, however, condense four or five pixels into one, and Nokia claims they are smaller than equivalent products from rivals. A Carl Zeiss lens shoots in continuous focus HD video, at 1080p. Mary McDowell, the firm's executive vice president for mobile phones, said the company's engineers had been working on the product "for years". She said it was "natural" to assume that its technology would be used in other Nokia products in the future. McDowell added that while the device was larger than its rivals, it was still sized to fit in pockets, rather than replace a full-size camera. According to the report, the device uses a 1.3GHz processor, comes with 16GB of storage and runs a 4" screen at 360 x 640, which is below HD resolution. 4" screen with 360x640 ??? What the heck? I would ask why Nokia has launched this model at all? krmith 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2012 It has a 41MP "sensor" and not camera. Camera will still be 5 or 8 MP. Though surely it will deliver clarity to the effect of 35-38MPs. amtrag 20 Report post Posted February 29, 2012 OK the photos look awesome...dslr quality. But the question remains: Why just 360x640 screen resolution, that too on a 4" screen. The 41mp sensor is a quantum leap forward but then the screen seems to be a quantum leap backwards! Hopefully they will upgrade the screen too in the next iteration of pureview models. Nokia must sell this technology to small DigiCam manufacturers ...would sure be a hit .... and throw their piece of **** (Symbian).... city02 63 Report post Posted March 1, 2012 99% of their customers will have no need for 'poster size' image prints what they really need is a nice 3-4mp digicam with flash in a handset that costs under rs. 4 k [or upto $100 abroad] that would be a much bigger impact to their sales than any 30-40mp cam they can develop classic 'shooting for the moon while tripping up on your feet' syndrome! Karthik R 246 Report post Posted March 5, 2012 Jo Harlow, Nokia's executive vice president of smart devices, told the Finnish newspaper Aamulehti that a Windows Phone with PureView camera technology won't take very long to make, but she wouldn't say precisely when Nokia would release such a device.
