Windows XP Problem

i dunno if this is the right place but guys pls humour me by answering

I have windows Xp for the last 3 yrs never really faced a problem except for this one

Normally if there is a prob i rectify it but this one is a lil out of my control

I start the computer it starts normally the blue screen comes saying WINDOWS IS STARTING

then it says WINDOWS IS SHUTTING DOWN

after that when i press the power button to start it again ... it turns off within 5 secs without window even loading

this happens 4 - 5 times and then it doesnt start at all

The only way i can start is in safe mode or DEBUGGUNG MODE in which i am currently

even in Safe Mode With Networking it shuts down... but after my login is complete

I have a P IV 2.4 Ghz 256Mb Ram 40GB hdd... with win XP proffessional edition

suggest you to backup your data and go for a fresh installation. see if it happens again, if it does then there's some serious problem!!

The problem has been solved

It turned out to be backdoor virus afcore.bs

This gives control to a malicious attacker hu can shut down the comp or delete files ... etc that is he has full control

It has smhw affected pccillin as well so i ran a housecall at trend microsystems

and then dnld AVG virus scanner and deleted the file tsddo.dll ehich was infected

So the IMPORTANT thing is its working

BTW, it sounds to me like a virus. Does it show any message like "Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service" before shutting down ?

Naa it wasnt blaster it was the backdoor virus that i mentioned earlier

BUt the prob hasnt ended coz now the bios has been affected by the virus the computer at times refuses to boot

When in doubt load a fresh copy... thats what I do format... upgrade ur Bios n reload Win XP load SP2 and install beta version of windows Antispyware from microsoft site.... Good combination to work with AVG free.. I visit lots of crack sites but no problems since quite sometime

I have been facing a very similar problem for more than a year now! I am still living wit it.

This has been happening, even when i was sure there was no virus on my PC. Every now and then, i get my engg to check up the hardware n voltage n wat not! The issue is simple, the comp jus reboots whenever it wants. There is no specific time gap or any specific command or program when it does.

My engg once had suggested tht i get a stabilizer so that it wudn't b the case of a Power Fluctuation(which i always thot wasn't the case in Mumbai, where i stay). But then i did, and it still reboots. Now i guess, its some hardware conflict, which am still not able to locate! Manoj suggested to keep the CPU open if its getting heated up more than wanted, but tht didn't work much.

Now very lately, i had a virus on my PC. Everybody knows. AVG has quite controlled it, but it wud display 41000 affected files in the System Info Folders of 2 (out of 4) drives of the machine.

This happened immediately after a clean Format of my machine wid a pirated CD of WinXP SP1, which i have been using all this time. I have tried often, with other CDs.

All these times, the XP wud get registered with the help of the Crack inside. But this time, it isn't getting. The issue is after following the instructions of cracking and registereing, the third day it would ask for ACTIVATION CODE again!! I wonder y! I guess, its becoz of the virus presence on the comp, tht it keeps on editing the registry of the PC. Is that the case?? Or shud i try out another Crack on the XP?

dear chirag, xpsp1 is a big NO NO. please install XPSP2 integrated setup of Win XP Pro. Pro is a better version with better networking features, and if you get Corporate edition of WinXPPro SP2 then it wouldnt bother you for activation. after insalling, run windows update on your pc and let it dowlnload and install all the updates. after that, start loading all the softwares, and use norton antivirus 2005. above combination is tried and tested by me on 100s of pcs and it works flawlessly.

Chirag, for the rebooting problem, you should get suspicious of your RAM if everthing else seems fine. You can use this M$ tool. There are others ...probably better ones ...but don't have the names/links right now. You'll need to make a floppy disk or burn a CD and boot from it, to use it (you cant diag. RAM in Win environment). For more details, you can refer to the detailed tech literature on how it works ...its intresting.

About your virus prob - NEVER rely on only 1 AV. And AVG is def. not the best. Try scanning with at least one more AV. Thats the simplest thing you can do for your prob.

You can do lot of stuff on your other probs ...but I gotta run now. U'll find help if you look in the right place. And it wont be very straight forward!

another strongest doubt of cold restart (after ram) is power supply.

try changing that and use it for a few days and see if the problem solves.

Could also happen if there is an excess heating up....

This once happened for me...

When I opened up the case I found that the Graphics card Fan and also the ATX case's fan were not working.

When I replaced both of them, the system started working perfectly again!!!

The PowerBox has already been replaced once by my engg. The MS RAM Tool also didn't give any issues on the first go. That overnight thing wud do this weekend. checked the fans earlier too. There was a time, when i used to keep the cabinet open to check on heating. Didn't help though.

Ok. My electrician has also checked the power supply for voltage fluctuations. That didn't help too.

Ok. Am going to reformat my machine once again. Am looking for a WinXP SP2, and a NAV recent version. If anybody has it and is frm Mumbai, PM me or EMAIL me.

The M$ tool is not necessarily foolproof. If you have 2 (or more) DIMMS, try running your machine on just one for sometime. Actually, thats how I figured out the problem on my machine. The tool just confirmed it later...

Ill suggest u to go for AVG or Bitfinder best AV around, I got what u have asked for, SMS me. I know this guy best hardware engineer, charge also less. some time cold restart happens becos of tht slim battery inside CPU (cabinet), check it out.

abey munna.. usko mera number de aur phone karne bol. the restart is not sometimes! Its a everytime thing. it can restart anytime!! So i better input this text quickly!
