3G USB Dongle - Can It Be Used With Pre-Paid Cards?

Recommended Posts

I have seen the following 3G USB dongles for GSM for sale:

ZTE K3770-Z FULLY UNLOCKED (LINK)

Huawei E303C Datacard (LINK)

My questions are:

1. Can they used with my Tata Docomo Prepaid SIM card or should I buy postpaid SIM ?

2. Does any provider give 7.2 mbps 3G on prepaid SIM card?

3. If I dont use the account balance for more than a year, then will the validity get over?

4. Is it better to buy the Netconnect dongle (CDMA) from TATA & Reliance or the above solutions?

Answers of your questions to the best of my understandings and experience.

1. You can use prepaid SIMs.

2. Speed does not have any effect on Postpaid & Prepaid. Its based on Plan you are subscribed to. Above all, the device should be capable of handling the speed.

3. please see this link regarding validity.

4. Choice is totally your's.

To add to point 4, both devices in OP are for GSM 3G they will not work on CDMA EVDO e.g. netconnect+ or BSNL EVDO.

Point 4:

Since the CDMA dongles are LOCKED to their network, always ask for a demo in place, where you will be using it mostly, before taking a post/pre connection...

Both these modems can not be compared with CDMA and yes somewhat better to have CDMA modems from Reliance/ Tata/ BSNL as good and unlocked modems are hard to find.

True, both these modems are GSM, may be if you are looking for CDMA, it would be better to call on saket in the forum. He had some CDMA unlocked modems for sale sometime back.

Point 4:

Yes. this is true and you have to be careful as some modems find it difficult to accept BSNL in some circles or stop working altogether...
