csmart 472 Report post Posted September 21, 2012 Roundup of improvements of iOS 6 Source: cnet.com iOS 6 was first previewed during Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference last June, revealing a few big changes, and many more minor tweaks to the operating system that powers theiPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. You'll need to update to iOS 6 before you can take advantage of the new features, so be sure you've done that before diving into the new features. Here are just a few of the best features and how to use them. We'll continue updating this page with more tips and tricks as we have them. The basics Download it The latest version of Apple's mobile operating system is now available for download to most iOS devices. Here's a list of compatible devices and a quick guide to downloading the update over the air or through the App Store. iTunes preview history(Credit: Screenshot by Jason Parker/CNET) Read: How to install iOS 6 Maps The Maps app in iOS 6 is arguably the biggest change in the latest OS. You can expect to find new features such as voice-guided turn-by-turn directions, Yelp integration and a new 3D mode. Read: Getting to know Maps on iOS 6 Bringing back Google Maps Unfortunately, Apple's new Maps app has met with some harsh (and sometimes hilarious) criticism. Incorrect location data, roundabout directions, and awkward satellite images have many early adopters wishing they could get Google Maps back on their iPhone. Well, you can -- though it's not a perfect solution. Read: How to bring back Google Maps in iOS 6 Siri gets smarter Siri has learned a few new tricks in iOS 6, including how to launch apps, update your Facebook or Twitter status, and make restaurant reservations. Here's how you can use them. Read: How to use Siri's new features in iOS 6 Do Not Disturb Do Not Disturb is a welcome feature that allows iOS users to completely silence their device(s) on demand, or on a schedule. To be sure you don't miss any important phone calls, you can customize which calls will get through no matter what. Read: Set up Do Not Disturb on iOS 6 Politely decline incoming calls Instead of just sending a caller to voice mail, you can now send them a message explaining why you can't talk, or set yourself a reminder to return the call in a few hours. Read: Send a message, set a reminder when declining a call on iOS 6 FaceTime over 3G The Achilles' heel of FaceTime has always been its Wi-Fi requirement. Unless you were to jailbreak your iOS device, then install a tweak to get around the 3G requirement, you could only use FaceTime when you were connected to a Wi-Fi network. With iOS 6, and depending on your carrier and device, you can now use FaceTime anywhere your iOS device has a cellular signal. Read: How to enable FaceTime over 3G with iOS 6 Shared Photo Stream albums Sharing photos using your iCloud account and Photo Stream is now possible thanks to iOS 6. You can share with iOS and non-iOS users directly from your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. Read: How to create a shared photo stream album on iOS 6 Passbook Passbook is a new app included in iOS 6 aiming to provide one location to store membership cards, tickets, coupons, and potentially payment information on your iPhone. Passes are easy to add, manage, and use. Hopefully this feature will take off once developers begin releasing updates with Passbook integrated into their apps. Getting started with Passbook on iOS 6 Mail Insert photos and videos into an e-mail There are some great new features in the Mail app on iOS 6, including VIPs, pull to refresh, and (my favorite) the ability to insert a photo or video directly into an e-mail while composing it. It's easy to use, you just have to know it's there. Attach a photo, video when composing an e-mail on iOS 6 Multiple e-mail signatures Being limited to one e-mail signature, no matter how many accounts you have on your iOS device, is now a thing of the past. With iOS 6 you're able to set an e-mail signature up for each account and not have to worry about managing when it's used. Read: How to set multiple e-mail signatures on iOS 6 Safari Safari goes full screen Mobile Safari now allows you to browse in a full-screen mode, in landscape orientation, on the iPhone and iPod Touch. Read: How to use Safari's full-screen mode on iOS 6 Upload photos in Safari The inability to upload a photo while browsing the Internet has been annoying iOS users for years. Thankfully, Apple finally addressed it in iOS 6. You can now upload photos from your Camera Roll and Photo Stream directly to Web sites in just a few taps. Read: With iOS 6, you can upload photos in Safari iOS 6 and Privacy Settings You now have better control over which apps can access your personal data. It's no longer up to the developers to request access to your calendar or contacts, iOS 6 handles it now. If you want to adjust your privacy settings, you'll need to know where to look. Read: How to control your privacy settings on iOS 6 Extras Panorama When Apple unveiled the iPhone 5, it also showed us the new Panorama feature for the first time. If you have an iPhone 4S or an iPhone 5, you can now take panoramic photos directly in the native camera app. Read: How to take a panoramic photo with iOS 6 Facebook Facebook integration has finally been integrated in iOS. Like the Twitter integration, Facebook is a sharing option throughout the entire operating system, and it's easy to set up. The link below will take you to a complete rundown of Facebook on iOS 6. Read: Get started with Facebook integration on iOS 6 Weather, Game Center, and a few other little improvements You already know about the Maps app and Siri, but here are five interface conveniences in iOS 6 that aren't featured in the big reviews. Read: 5 smaller useful tweaks in iOS 6 Find My Friends notifications If you use Find My Friends to help you keep track of your kids, you'll like its new notification feature. Using the latest update to Find My Friends in iOS 6, you can now be notified when a contact in your Find My Friends app either arrives or leaves a location.

kshah 452 Report post Posted September 21, 2012 HeLL people this is a iOS6 and iPhone 5 discussion not a anti apple thread - if you cant discuss advancement / technical stuff please stay away and post else where MOds will you please clean up the trash So much of anti apple discussion proves only one thing that apple and I phones are objects of desire I have seen iPhone4 and nexus a 4g, almost same hardware specs side by side, there is no comparison. (Here people will argue for price, but price is at discretion of manufacturers, Chinese manufacturers offer far superior hardware specs yet only s 2 or s 3 is compared with iPhone, google was and is at liberty to decide their hardware cost ) Though I chose nexus over iPhone (purely because of my own preference, it has nothing to do with superiority of it), I would suggest iPhone over Android to others. rajanmehta 4,056 Report post Posted September 22, 2012 Verizon iPhone 5 is unlocked, able to accept GSM SIMs right away Source Aside from handling Verizon's LTE waves just fine, the nano-SIM slot will also accept cards from any other GSM carrier worldwide. In other words, AT&T nano-SIMs will get you onto its HSPA+ network, and T-Mobile nano-SIMs will play nice as well. If you're heading overseas, you can pick up a local nano-SIM on arrival and plug it straight in -- no unlocking code necessary. To confirm, this even applies to Verizon iPhone 5 units that were purchased under contract.

Rahul Always 87 Report post Posted September 23, 2012 Ha ha discussion means talking about all the "good" points only! No comparisons, no talking about the bad points, no criticisms (how can you?? ) ! Right? Well any discussion about iOs and Apple is bound to have its share of brickbats and bouquets. One needs to accept the plus and minuses as part of any OS or any phone! Nothing to get super sensitive or defensive about. I am sure YOU didn't invent the iPhone! phonegeek 588 Report post Posted September 23, 2012 Apple iPhone 5 aluminum shell plagued by chipping issues 22 September, 2012 | Comments (355) | Post your comment Tags: Apple, iOS, Touch UI It seems to have become a routine now. Every year Apple releases a new iPhone and while most of the customers are delighted a subset of buyers pull the short end of the stick. With the iPhone 4, it was the antennagate issue, with the iPhone 4S it was the battery life problem and now some iPhone 5 buyers are noticing dents on their prized possession. Yes, many owners, particularly of the Black & Slate colored model, are reporting dents and scratches along the chamfered edges of their new iPhone right out of the box. We haven't seen many reports from owners of the White & Silver model, but that just might be because the color isn't particularly popular. Now, anodized aluminum is known to pick up scuff marks easily. Because the color is painted on top, even a minor scuff can make it come off, revealing a shiny silver spot below. Also, aluminum is a soft metal, so it dents very easily, especially along thin edges. You'll find scuffs and dents on practically every anodized aluminum object that has been used for a while. Which is why it wasn't a shock to us when we saw the iPhone picking up dents along the edges in this drop test. However, it is surprising when the device comes with scuff marks out of the box and points to poor quality checks at Apple's end. Of course, Apple will readily replace any such device for you. But if you're importing this device to a different country (and we know many do), you will need to be careful and hold on till the issue gets sorted. Update: Apparently, white units have the same issues as the black ones. We are really hoping Apple makes an official statement soon enough and explain the cause. http://www.gsmarena.com/certain_black_iphone_5_reportedly_come_with_dents_out_of_the_box-news-4844.php
shadow 119 Report post Posted September 23, 2012 any screen over 4 is unusable with single hand , a phone should be a phone, not a hybrid of tablet and phone, i see people feeling awkward when talking on their note , they may be good for watching videos and reading, but doesnt quite get right about the basic feature of phone - "calling" so boasting about large screens of phone is just stupid, i will +1 iphone5 for keeping screen to just 4.0 and not 5 or 7 inches , if they did so, it should be called ipad mini with calling feature but not iphone, and about multitasking, my android phone cant handle even 4 process in background, then what is the use of having true multitasking, my ipad may not be using true multitasking but, i like the pause process thread thing, by that we can handle many process and pause them if we want to, +1 for apple for that, IOS6 maps are just " stupidity of apple going insane" PS: im not a i fanboy or android fan, i like both my android and ios devices,
