Reliance Communications has teamed up with PC maker Lenovo to market smart phones in the country. Lenovo will make CDMA and GSM handsets simultaneously and use the Reliance 'Dual Core' network to switch calls between the two networks automatically based on the strength and quality of RF signals.

The Reliance Lenovo co-branded smart-phones will be available to Reliance CDMA and GSM customers.

"Reliance Communications' partnership with Lenovo is aimed towards leading the next wave of Smart-phones and tablets across the country with the widest footprint of High Speed Data network of Reliance," Reliance Communications said in a statement.

The Reliance Lenovo co-branded smart-phones will operate on the Android operating system with a dual core 1 GHz processor that supports all applications

''The Indian smart-phone market represents solid growth opportunities where CDMA / GSM smart-phone penetration is still low. Having made strong inroads owing to our innovative product offering, we saw a great synergy with Reliance Communications to provide cutting edge phones for our consumers as a next step to penetrate the market further. With this partnership, we aim to replicate our China success and gain market share in the booming smart-phone market in India,'' said Liu Jun, president, Lenovo Business Group.

Does it mean that same number will work on both the network with these instruments? If that the case, it is amazing. otherwise it will be same as existing dual mode phones with Reliance brand...

If it is real time "in call switching", then it must be same number I guess.

it will be awesome if they can actually harness the technology and network presence.

they have to simple produce worldphones with lenovo and issue T-SIM cards for both subscribers of GSM and CDMA.

as T-SIM cards are capable to using both networks as long as the handset can support. then you dont have to change the sim

and with the wider coverage you will be able to latch on to reliance cdma or gsm networks.

for instance in many places gsm 3g is not there but cdma evdo is present by reliance.

there can be many benefits i am sure. but if all this remains on papers and forums then what to say.

lets hope first we can see free roaming implemented in India this year.
