shyam_banerjee 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 I am trying to connect to internet from my laptop using Rconnect but it comes up with the message " PPP not responding ( error code : 721 )" or "remote computer not responding". I have Windows XP and have connected to the phone using my USB port through a R232 USB to serial port convertor. The phone is able to detect the call to the number #777 but after waiting for about 30 seconds attempting to connect it comes up with such an error. It seems that something is happening when the response is sent back. Could anyone help me out on this ? Thanks, Harsha.

tony_js 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 - Check if the connections between the cable and RIM phone is fine. Yes, uninstall / reinstall the RConnect drivers. If Already done & problem persists, Check on any other computer If still the problem persists, Visit ASC with phone & data cable for assistance End
Vishal Gupta 4 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 The RConnect Help file shows: 721 A PPP conversation was attempted, but the remote computer did not respond. This error occurs when the server does not support PPP, such as a Windows NT 3.51 or earlier remote access server, or a SLIP server. This error may also occur if the server requires logging on by using a terminal window before starting PPP. If using a terminal window to log on solves the problem, you can automate the process for future connections. This error can also indicate faulty hardware on your computer, or the remote server. shyam_banerjee 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 I have actually tried on a different laptop which runs on Windows 2000 and using a serial port that is inbuilt on the laptop. It works fine with the phone. I am getting a feeling that it could be due to the connection to the phone via two cables, i.e. from USB to COM port convertor cable which provides a COM4 and then to the phone using that COM port through a serial cable. Any further ideas ?? Is it worth trying a previuos version of RConnect ??
