::: VA ::: 531 Report post Posted July 1, 2013 HTC Desire XC Dual SIM Android Smartphone now available in India for Rs. 16249 at least one company is taking care of bringing official evdo omh based smartphones to india. that too at an affordable price. i am glad it comes with gsm capability to avoid network stress in hills. needless to say i am a fan of htc interface & build quality. in case of htc one & galaxy s4 call it my conventional thinking but keeping all other comparisons at bay. i could or would never be able to bring myself to pay for a feeble plastic body infront of aluminium body. when it comes to looks, build quality & construction material samsung just keeps repeating their design with same material. you can barely differentiate a 16k samsung from a 40k samsung phone. they just want to tap the market and make money leaving all cadres of customers with no vanity value or class.(galaxy series are like clones from star wars , by the looks of them you cant tell which is the powerful jedi or a sith) just look at the number of galaxies you can buy......they keep releasing one after another so more and more people can rush and claim i have the latest galaxy (mega, quattro, grand , neo, pocket, ace, star, fame, s, s2, s3, s4, y, beam, chat, music, young) samsung phones just lack the one thing that matters alot when you are willing to pay for something thats so personal to you and involves most of your time & activity. IDENTITY htc if nothing else , is at least a breather.
ni0987 179 Report post Posted July 1, 2013 (edited) samsung has a simple marketing policy. ami1 237 Report post Posted July 1, 2013 .... .... samsung phones just lack the one thing that matters alot when you are willing to pay for something thats so personal to you and involves most of your time & activity. IDENTITY .... So true. Instead of being a premium brand, galaxy is becoming more like a commodity. Samsung should have had completely different sub brand and different LOOKS for their range, otherwise its no use paying 30-40K when it looks same as their 10-15K phone.

rajanmehta 4,056 Report post Posted July 23, 2013 Ubuntu Edge Announced - Will Dual Boot Android & Ubuntu Touch Canonical has announced Ubuntu Edge, a cutting edge hardware smartphone carrying both Android/Ubuntu Touch and when connected to any monitor will transform into a Ubuntu PC with fully integrated desktop OS. It is coming May 2014. Official Website >> http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ubuntu-edge Crafted from cool, textured amorphous metal, the Edge has a distinctive, precise look but its rakishly chamfered edges are shaped to fit naturally in the palm -- our design prototype already has a wonderfully solid feel. It’s the right size, too. Edge gestures are the next big thing in mobile, and our testing has found that a 4.5in screen is ideal for comfortable control of all four edges with one hand. We also believe the race for ever higher resolution has become a distraction. Beyond 300ppi you’re adding overhead rather than improving display clarity. We think colour, brightness and dynamic range are now the edge of invention so we’ll choose a display for its balance of resolution, dynamic range and colour accuracy. We’ll protect that gorgeous display with something vastly tougher than glass: pure sapphire crystal, a material so hard only diamond could scratch it. For a phone to run a full desktop OS, it must have the raw power of a PC. We’ll choose the fastest available multi-core processor, at least 4GB of RAM and a massive 128GB of storage. The battery will use silicon-anode technology, so we can squeeze more energy into the same dimensions. Specifications! st_7 138 Report post Posted August 1, 2013 (edited) Samsung Announces World's First Dual Mode LTE(FDD/TDD) Phone With Seamless Switching: Finally, the technology has arrived and Samsung once again proved that they became one of the top Smartphone Manufacterer(in sales wise) by not merely pushing different models or just by copying other's inventions but also they invent or develop new technology and contribute to the overall developement of Mobile world. The long awaited feature of Dual Mode LTE Seamless Switching is here thanks to Samsung. Samsung has announced that they are gonna release another variant of Samsung Galaxy S4 & Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini models, which can switch between two different LTE networks seamlessly(with out the need of any of your attention). ZTE tried to come up with this type of technology at the end of last year by launching ZTE GRAND ERA but that phone needs to be restarted to switch between FDD to TDD LTE network or vice-versa. But it will not be the case with the new variant of Samsung Galaxy S4 or S4 Mini, the phone automatically switches between them. This technology here means a win-win situation for both carriers & customers(end users). You can buy any phone with this technology & need not to worry about being crippled when you travel to other countries where the other type of LTE technology is used as long as the phone supports the frequencies. Note: LTE is being implemented in two different formats FDD & TDD, US market is the prime example of FDD-LTE while China & India are some of the countries with TDD-LTE, So, till now you can't just buy 4G LTE phone from US carriers like Verizon, At&T or others and expect the device to work with the LTE network in China & India, even though the two different networks work on same frequency. For example, if you buy a Verizon 4G phone, which presumably works on 700Mhz frequency(for 4G) on Verizon network in US and bring it to China where if suppose one of the carrier do provide 4G on 700Mhz frequency, you still can't use 4G with that phone in China because Verizon uses FDD-LTE while China uses TDD-LTE. But it'll all change now, just buy a Verizon(or any other carrier for that matter) phone with this technology and take it another country where another type of LTE technology is used, you still will be able to use your phone thanks to the support of both LTE technologies & seamless switching between them. But still the frequencies needed to be supported by the phone. Sources: Multiple Technical Blogs Edited August 2, 2013 by st_7
st_7 138 Report post Posted August 2, 2013 (edited) Motorola Moto X Is Finally Released Officially: After months & months of being rumoured & leaked(its been rumoured since 2012!), the Motorola Moto X smartphone is finally been announced by Motorola today. Although most of the specs have already been leaked days before this official announcement, there are always couple of things here & there to be known at the launch. Continue reading for the specs & few highlights of the phone. Highlights: 1) Motorola is released this phone with the concept to give the customer to custom design their phone(few aesthetics). For that customize Motorola will start an online tool(or website) called Moto Maker which features a step by step customization process for building a phone with the ability to customize Back, front, accent color, and signature. But all these customization options are AT&T exclusive for the time being. 2) Along with the colour options, Motorola will also make four wood options(the back of the phone would be Wood!!), teak, bamboo, rosewood, and ebony at a later time as Motorola is still in testing & finalising the wood. 3) Motorola is using an in-house customized 'Computing System' inside this phone and Motorola names it as 'X8'. This in nothing but a combination of Qualcomm SoC(Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with 2 Krait 300 processors & four cores GPU, Adreno 320), a Natural Language Processor(for the always on Google Now features) and a Contextual Processor (for 'Active Display' & gesture enabled quick capture camera). 4) Although the display is 720p, Motorola for the first time using a new unique glass-plastic fusion(glass is fused into the plastic at the edge!! and rounds off nicely). The display is a SAMOLED with RGB(Sub-Pixel) arrangement instead of regular RGB stripe. 5) Its the first non-apple device(read Iphone 5) to use Nano-SIM(4FF) format. 6) Moto X has intelligently driven speakerphone, meaning some algorithms are used to monitor the tempeartures of speaker to generate a loud sound as possible without damaging the speaker. 7) Motorola using Ominvision OV10820 camer unit at back which is 10.5 MP. The speciality of this camera is that it uses RGBC(Red/Green/Blue/Clear) colour filter to produce exceptional low light & clear pictures. This is the first time this technology is being used in a smartphone. The sensor captures RAW images using a sensitive RGBC (red / green / blue / clear) color filter, and a companion chip automatically converts the resulting shots into the Bayer format that most imaging processors expect. The result is a high-performance camera that slots inside the Moto X without requiring any special effort. The sensor is a 1/2.6" size with 1.4µm pixels. 8) Moto X has an always on 'Google Now' feature, with which you can wake the phone by just saying 'Ok Google Now' even if it is in a deep sleep state. For this alone(along with language interpretation purposes) Motorola incorporate a special processor called 'Natural Laguage Processing' core. 9) The Contextual Processor is used to support 'Quick Capture', which is the quick enter camera gesture. Flick your wrist by holding the Moto X to enable Motorola’s camera UI of the Moto X. 10) The Contextual Processor is also being used to support 'Active Display' feature, which enables to view the last few(latest) notifications on the lock screen and gives the ability to dive into the app that the notifications come from(like new mail from gmail app) by swipping(drag) up the notification. Dragging(swipping) the notifications to left or right clears them. KanagaDeepan 1,084 Report post Posted August 2, 2013 ^^^^^ I am very very disappointed with Moto X is an under-statement, though I am a die-hard Motorola and Google fan... Actually I am more than happy with 4.7" non-pentile AMOLED+ 720p edge to edge screen. Lack of QuadCore processor is OK for me too. But what I don't like in Moto X is [0] Motorola designs used to be UNIQUE (though NOT all are beautiful), this one reminds design of Nexus series [1] Locked BL - Its a first google inspired phone from Moto, then WTF LB doing in X??? [2] Tiny (in Motorola standards) + Non-removable 2200mAh battery [3] Removal of SD slot and tiny phone memory [NO-65GB GDrive is NOT an option for Indian internet speeds] [4] Nano-SIM {When tiny battery dies u r left alone - Had very bad xp with adapters} [5] Price / features ratio is too high [6] Though touchless voice commands are useful, its just a gimmick for people who don't mind pressing lock button and two cores wasted for just gimmicks.. [7] Removal of LED notification and adding ActiveDisplay (always on screen notification, though AMOLED, it will kill battery comparing LED light) [8] Customisation NOT enough, imho (out of 16 colours there is 3 white, 2 black, 3 red, 3 pink, 4 green, one yellow) [9] No HDMI port ============================== Comparing my current RazrMAXX_HD, this thing gets a slightly OC processor, better GPU, twice RAM, better camera as plus points. But I will be missing great battery life, 32GB + microSD support, unlocked BL, LED notification, HDMI... NOT worth an upgrade for me, imho...
