::: VA ::: 531 Report post Posted September 4, 2013 (edited) My mausi has an old htc droid eris. Due to some apps issue my cousin (her daughter) thought its like any other android and she did a factory reset. After that the phone was on Verizon again and reliance programming lost. She panicked and told me. Now normally its a 5 minute job to put back nam, prl and min to get these phones alive again. But she didnt have the MIN cos she didnt know or realize the significance. Without the MIN even I was at a fix how to revive it again. Tried CC & WW but what could they do. I started pestering two of my/our favorite rim gurus. Which I wouldnt name here as I have high respect for their time & knowledge (of course their numerous self less help) but they were at a loss too. As in they wouldnt reply after hearing my plight with anything concrete. They asked me "kya hua" and then said "Min cant be retrieved" This was the scariest point. As I knew i could first apply for a sim for this number. Then get the handset unblocked. Later get the sim transfered to handset again. now getting one job @ WW is killing enough. Going through 3 jobs which would take endless visits and loads of frustration. Then came the savior Malik ji, he is rimweb member(id: adventuressmalik) but doesnt frequent here. I often chat with him and told him my plight. He said its not a big deal at all. A simple Re-OTAP request is required. It might be a common knowledge but I had never heard this before. He said he will place it for me in a jiffy and by evening or next morning to do *228. At first few times it was same old "your phone could not be activated......." but by next day evening which is like now when I am writing this. It went through and " your phone is successfully activated...." Wow, I am so relieved as my poor old aunt was stuck. She was so happy to get her number working. I told her the whole credit is of Mr. Malik. Edited September 4, 2013 by ::: VA :::

dr.faramroze 703 Report post Posted September 4, 2013 In rare cases RE-OTAP does not work the hundredth time. Securing MIN is very important, not for being into Reliance network but for all CDMA networks worldwide. Subscribers should be able to change handsets by logging into their network account just like Sprint. Reliance MIN is accessible to a few people who fetch it by entering MDN in few minutes. MIN remains hardcoded on the discarded old RUIM and can be read by CDMA freeware tools so preserve the old RUIM and never surrender it. aalok 442 Report post Posted September 4, 2013 also, RE-OTAF request cannot be completed, if the handset is like Moto Razr XT912 and there is no other option to RE-OTAF. One can visit RW or RMS & ask the executive to place a RE-OTAF request on his MDN. Visiting is required, as the CCEs sitting in Callcentre's are not enough knowledgeable or they do not want to explore or they do not have access to such options.. ::Hitesh:: 1,763 Report post Posted September 4, 2013 ^^^ CCEs wont even know what is OTAF, best way it to SAVE you MIN , RE-OTAF is just an option which might save you.
matriX1218 44 Report post Posted September 5, 2013 Good to know that problem solved... MIN never changes... it's the same as on ruim... if you have old ruim, simply put it to any handset, you'll see your MIN... I did it hundreds of time... you can use handset simply after retain mdn process but *228 is needed to update the same in Carrier database that handset is activated... silent_god 121 Report post Posted September 5, 2013 I had faced a similar problem in past, where MIN was not NOTED DOWN, earlier. Had found by some other method mentioned here..http://www.rimweb.in/forums/topic/35791-how-to-get-min-number-from-reliance/?p=289926 Maybe this can help for other cases..I must admit it was try & error attempt, which luckily succeeded. amtrag 20 Report post Posted September 5, 2013 I am technically challenged with regard to handset programming. Just thinking out aloud: If I lose my MIN, I can just walk in to a webworld and report my handset as damaged. And get a new SIM by retain MDN process. OTAF the new sim in another handset and then read the MIN. Is it this simple? Or am I missing something?

Reporting your handset as damaged will be a an issue for you, you can ask them to do re-otaf on same rsn other work around is to put a handset exchange request and take the number on another handset or sim. then again do same handset exchange and revert back to original handset, in this process you dont need to read MIN or you can read min from your old sim card and put the sim in current phone, so no re-otaf or handset exchange request required
