Motorola Phones: Reliance CDMA Data Issue On Android 4.4 Kitkat

Recommended Posts

Greetings!

There have been posts in various threads which indicate that several users took Kitkat update on their Motorola phones (mainly Verizon devices) and 1x data has stopped working on Reliance CDMA. Suggestions such as changing the RUIM SIM card and trying a new SIM are workarounds and have already been made in other threads.

I can consolidate a list of phones/ users affected by this upgrade and send it to my contacts in Motorola, who might be able to help resolve this issue from software perspective.

So, if you have an issue with Reliance CDMA data, then please write in this thread if you can abide by the following:

  1. You have to be willing to install bug2go or some other debugging tool and send the bug report to Motorola if asked for.
  2. You have to be willing to participate in the troubleshooting exercise with Motorola, if required.

I cannot promise anything at this stage, since this looks like a carrier specific issue. However, something in Kitkat has broken the functionality and that means Motorola can resolve the issue. It goes without saying, that for this to be prioritized, we have to have a large number of affected users.

Please include following details:

Carrier: Reliance CDMA (always)

Version of OS: 4.4/4.4.2

Model:

SIM:

Kitkat upgrade method: OTA/ update by file using HoM script

Issue:

I will start with my dad's phone

Carrier: Reliance CDMA (always)

Version of OS: 4.4.2

Model: XT926

SIM: Normal SIM cut to mini form factor

Kitkat upgrade method: update by file using HoM script

Issue: 1x data worked fine on 4.1.2. After upgrading to 4.4.2, data stopped working.

Most of the phones not only Motorola, HTC(Sprint HTC One 2013), LG(G2) phones(I don't know about samsung) have stopped working with RUIM with the update of Kitkat. I don't know the reason. I thought LG has blocked it by dropping the RUIM capability in the modem itself, but if it is just Kitkat related issue(that effected every manufacturer handsets) then it will be an excellent news and may apply the solution(if you find) to all those handsets.

Insists on cdma micro sim ...do not use sims which have been cut to fit micro slot.

My friend was having the same issue for last 15 days ...it got resolved today

Thank you for this input. I will ask my dad to change the SIM, but probably he won't be able to obtain a micro-SIM since he has a pre-paid connection.

Anyone else who has tried with micro-SIM? Please post results here.

BTW: I have not been able to make any progress with Motorola so far.

I got a micro sim issued by reliance world and now data is working fine. U just have to get a micro sim pre cut from reliance. Also initially I faced problems with connectivity with the new uim too but I registered a complaint with customer care and now its working fine.

I had faced exactly same issue with my Motorola Droid Razr M after the update to kit kat.

I bought a new OMH SIM card from reliance store. It was a normal sim but they cut it to micro for me.

After inserting that sim, I got an option to add apn in the apn screen with a + button.

I added an apn called rcomnet with username and password as my mobile no. After saving it and selecting that apn, in a couple of seconds my mobile got connected to evdo network and data started working.

Also with my old sim I used to get a message saying that my sim was from an unknown source after power on. With the new sim, that message had disappeared.

So I suggest you try a new sim and add rcomnet apn.

Try some different precut micro sim cards available in webworld. its already mentioned in previous posts that u need to try sim cards which are precut to micro by reliance.
