Hello Every One !!

One of the Most loved device on this forum just got updated to Android 4.4.4 [boost Moto G]

Yesterday Motorola pushed the OTA 4.4.4 to moto G boost.

Now every one will be asking below questing .. so trying to answer them as I can [will try]

Q=What to backup before OTA update ?

A= Your MIN number.

[None of below updates delete MIN, But you should have it handy]

Q= Where to get MIN

A= if your phone is working perfect then just dial ##000000# and there it is MIN. note down in your diary or send min to self in gmail

Q=What else to backup ?

A= Depends on you, photos, songs, movies etc etc....

Q-=should I take update thru OTA ?

A= YES...but read all FAQ before proceeding !

Q=How much time it will take to update ?

A= OTA method should take 10-12 min after you download the update in phone.

Q=How big is this OTA

A=Approx 200MB

Q=With OTA will my all apps go away ?

A=NO, in OTA update all apps and data is saved automatically.

Q=Any other way to get 4.4.4 without root and without wasting my phone data ?

A= Yes, you should be on software ver 175 [last update of 1.3mb] here is the link

[This wont wipe your data]

Q= I just downloaded above zip file now what to do ?

A= download and rename it as Update.zip and keep in root of phone. reboot to stock recovery and use update.zip method in stock recovery.

you will have all your data as it is.

Q= Any method for Rooted / recovery phones ?

A=Yes, same above 200mb zip can be used.

Q= I am on 4.3 stock and not rooted , can I update ?

A= NO, you have to be on software ver 175, or rooted with recovery.

Q= OK, I am on 4.3 stock and rooted with custom recovery, can i update ?

A= Yes you can, follow the this link

Q= There are 3 options in above link, which one I use.

A= Above link have 3 options, 1- Pure stock, 2-Pure stock with Root, 3-Stock 4.4.4 deodexed and debloated

It depends on you, what you want to use, will suggest 3rd one, which is debloated and deodexed,

Update the partiation table and flash any one of above, you will be on 4.4.4

Q=I used one of above 3 zip method, what about my data ?

A=Most of data will be as it is, but better to take full backup.

Q=what to backup ?

A= Again your MIN, and photos and other things you may want to save.

Q= Just Finished my update to 4.4.4, now on every boot Hands Free activation comes up and my bootloader unlock warning is back, what to do??

A=Follow the same old method posted HERE

Q=As per above links and my linking I updated to 4.4.4, but I cant see network.

A=All above methods will restore your PRL to Boost PRL 61010. and also your data settings will be changed to boost.

Q= how to get my network back, so I can starting getting calls and SMS.

A= Use DFS and Load Reliance PRL

Q= Ok so I got calls and sms working, now how to get data back ?

A=You need your DATA Dump file to get data back, use NV write to write dump to phone and DFS to stick it. [you need to get Data dump file from the person who did Registration for you in reliance, or your indian seller] - Do not ask me for dump which MEID are not done thru me

Q= should I use full flashing tutorial ?

A=NO , NEVER , Dont Do It.

Q=Then will you update the tutorial for only PRL and DATA ?

A=You Bet ! here it is.

Q= Now I got my calls, SMS and Data working , where is wifi tether , I am rooted !!

A=Follow the tether tweak from this link

Hi

I handset is 4.4.2. which is 175 version ...rooted & custom recovery. After download from OTA it restart in recovery & update the software and goes to recovery menu. from there i click on restart the handset. But after normal booting it again restart in recovery & showing installing... this is going in loop.

am i doing anything wrong. As you mention in FAQ should i have to download rom from link provided (this link). and install using recovery.

Those link was for people on 4.3 and not for 4.4.2.

For 4.4.2 you have taken ota with rooted and gone in bootloop.

Now if you have twrp recovery you are very lucky ! If not install it.

In twrp advance option you will find file manager.

Using that file manager go to catch folder and rename it or move or delete ota zip file. Which should be name something like blur__Version.175.44.1.falcon_cdma.Boost.en.US.zip

Boot normally and you are back in 4.4.2.

Now you need same zip file.

But this time rename it to update.zip and copy it to phone memory.

From twrp you can now flash this file.

I have mention this in above FAQ for people who are in 4.4.2 with custom recovery

Hi I have tried updating using update.zip from twrp, but give me error while installing...I m copied from log file.

Your current moto g 4.4.2 is debloted that's why these errors are coming with its zip

Now You should use 4.4.4 stock rooted zip from above 3 file link. And flash in recovery . use full 400+ MB file.

Have successfylly able to install 4.4.4. using 200 MB zip file using update.zip method.

The problem with the file which i have renamed for motorola activation which is SprintOMADM2.apk.bak. After renaming with original file name update went smoothly.

Just need to flash PRL & Data dump aggain. all the data & app are as it is..

Restore stock app which you renamed or moved and update will be fine

my phone is not rooted, and I am not sure what to do..

I believe the solution is to do something twrp recovery which I have never used. So requesting detailed advice.

I haven't updated yet as have disabled the OTA update as Hitesh instructed.

My query is how incremental is this 4.4.4 jump? Does it give a much improved experience or is it just cosmetic?

Apparently the Dialer interface looks different. Can someone post a screengrab of it?

@bablus as you phone was already on reliance, mostly SPC must be 000000, if not you can ask person who did registration. going from 4.3 or from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 will not change your spc.

@man-Saturday all moto stock roms are rock solid stable, so nothing big in 4.4.4, as far as dialer is concern, it only shows photos of contacts with the Name.

if your contact dose not have photo , it will show starting alphabet like if person name is starting from A, it will show big square A and name at left bottom corner.

Are you using dfs to push prl? Then it should work fine

unfortunately hitesh wasnt spot on with the spc prediction

it had not changed to 000000

I found the spc code saved in NV writer. I guess it has cache memory, found it as per last used.

Pushed prl with spc code using DFS. phone started working

No other way , you can try custom ROM

After doing nandroid backup , just flash any custom tom and u will get 4.4.4, few suggestions are gummy , PA, pa unofficial.

But from now on never take official update or load official ROM by fastboot or by RSD lite. This will wipe your data settings.

If you want to return from custom to stock only way will be restoring backup from recovery .

Right now there is no easy way to go back to 4.4.2 and also I don't have any solutions for spc on 4.4.4

So wait till apk developer updates its app for 4.4.4.

Also as your phone is registered on reliance. You can get your spc from person who did registration. Mostly it was done zero before doing reliance programing.

Tried downgrade from 4.4.4 to 4.4.2, everything went fine after trying for 34hrs non stop.

But bad new is can't read spc.
