raccoon 53 Report post Posted May 15, 2005 I don't know if they operate in Yerwada ...thats the other end of the city for me... Try 9890669028 to find out. It might be worthwhile to inquire with other users before commiting for 6 months ...I'm not in the know about the quality of their services. In fact, If you do subscribe, do let us know about ur experience. :'(
raccoon 53 Report post Posted June 18, 2005 (edited) Did anybody here subscribe to Hathway??? Well, after like waiting for eternity for BSNLs Data one (no response from them even after repeated calls) I finally paid Hathway (64 Kbps, unlimited). Its 500/month + tax. Six months advance & no installation charges. I paid them on 7th June and was promised a connection within 7 days. They just installed the wire 2 days back, but the connection as such hasn't been activated yet! Problem with their 'back end', they say... raccoon 53 Report post Posted July 22, 2005 (edited) Guys, don't even touch Hathway. My connection was activated ...and has not worked satisfactorily for a single day! Right now my connection has been totally down for 15 days. This connection is not worth having at any price - something that simply dosent work isnt worth any price. Moreover they have the cheek to tell me that my comp is affected with a virus ...and is causing a problem in their network! Neetless to say there is nothing wrong on my comp ...in fact my comp is one of the most 'fortified' machines you can find ...and Im pretty paranoid about PC security. They even sent their (so called) techinician over to check ...and of course he couldnt find a thing ...in fact, to put it in a nutshell, he hardly seemed to know anything! Worst thing is Iv paid 6 months advance ...and will seek recourse to legal action if I dont get a refund very soon. Keep away from these swindlers. Anybody else here has Hathway??? anujit 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2005 I'm yet to see a real broadband connection in India. Real = freakishly fast speeds, cost ~Rs 1000, unlimited downloads and of course good uptimes, without hassels of having to live in the right neighbourhood/building. So I'm stuck with moderately fast, freakishly expensive, unlimited downloads, good uptimes, and extremely portable Rconnect.
raccoon 53 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 You said it ...India is still in the dark ages as far as net connectivity is concerned. Esp. a crying shame in Poona, which has so many software cos. R-connect may be reliable ...but 1,500/month is too expensive for home use. And 1 GB/month is way too less... They (Hathway) sent thieir technician again today morning with a new lame excuse - my firewall is obstructing their connection! Well, I told him, if it did, then It would never have connected even once - firewalls are not generally moody to allow connections sometime and not otherwise. Even then have tried unloading the firewall ...needless to say it still dosent connect/work!

When my rotten Hathway averages about 2.5 kBps??? Dude, Im going to have a HUGE problem believing that! And if its true (esp. at that price) I'd kill for it ...in fact I could even go on a serial killing spree for it!!! Worst thing is I'm stuck with Hathway for 6 months, as I'v paid them that much in advance to avoid installation charges. Complaints to anybody including the Manager yeild almost no response ...and my patience is wearing thin. Anyway, whats their address/number?
Arun 795 Report post Posted August 20, 2005 Do you have a screen shot of the actual speed, gr8usr ?
TCP/IP 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2005 (edited) It may be possible. A friend of mine got a DSL connection in Calcutta where he used to get 1 ~ 2Mbps speeds. It was a special offer though and he got unlimited downloads so he was downloading away in full glory. I don't know if they put a limit on the downloads later on. He's now moved to Delhi so I have no idea about how that service is anymore. I'd spend any amount to get a connection at half that speed or even a quater. And as per to my knowledge what Americans are getting in their homes are T1 lines which is much faster, which is actually 1.5mbps broadband line. To advice for a recheck, dont go for these statistics which you are showing in your screen shots. Try here, http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ and show me the screen shot from this site. Cheers 39333[/snapback] Man i was talking about my lan , 10.83MBps is the speed that we get over the lan on not on the net . Our lan uses fiber optic cables that have a capacity of 150Mbps and can take a lot of traffic . the fact that i got 10.83MBps means that my 10/100 Ethernet card was streched to capacity. the previous screenshot that i posted is of the speed i was getting off the net . net4india had a 2.5Mbps line dedicated to our lan and there was no fixed speed guarantee . anybody who installed their dialer and had a username and password had access to all of the bandwidth . The reason that i got such speeds was that maybe nobody was using the net at that time . I would have been getting 10Kbps had there been many ppl who were using the net at that time , but luckily for me that was never the case.
