Sent TONE to my mobile number which is connected to my computer using NowSMS and U will get back a Ringtone. I have tried that also tried ping www.yahoo.com also (pinging). I guess u have to contact TRAI for this particular service. just a guess not sure.

I bet TRAIn had got nothing to with it. One must contact a operator. The cust is billed by the operator & the % revenues are shared by the provider of services. Even ringtone or other downloads are billed by the operator & the money is passed on to the owner of the service number after the operator takes their cut. Because of this revenue sharing thing such kind of sms are costly to the end user.

Ya Vinu is rite, U need to have a legal agreement with the operators and they will pay u the % of money which they make through ur service. ITs not so easy to get money from operator

well priya I guess this is what u were looking out for, For eg. U wish to launch a service with a service number lik 4343 then u need to tie up with a mobile service provider (and since most mobile service providers have interconnections) your work gets done a lot simpler.

In fact, tata is currently advertising this a lot, u could check up their site... and after u fill up the form, confirming interest... u get a call from an executive the very next day (that was in my case, asking specific details and costs involved..)

hey being on the topic of SMS gateways

could u guys tell/recommend me a sms gateway which provides me with a 4 digit approach number like(8888 indiatimes/3650 go 92.5 fm)

and with which i can interact with my people not just recive but also send the messages

ps :- the gateway should be approachable from all the operators in india and yup the cheapest the better
