Well nothing close to urz dacodecz but I am happy with 340 GB on my P4 (thatz 160 + 100 + 80) , 80 on my P3, 120 on my laptop.

The 340 GB is almost FULL!! but space left in the other two ... coz I am mostly on my main comp (the P4).!!!

seagate 40gb harddisk for laptop costs Rs 4000 plus fitting charges about Rs 500. it carries 3 years warranty by seagate service center.

one more option is a usb harddisk. a usb casing for above laptop harddisk is available at Rs 600/-. so the harddrive becomes an exteral usb harddrive.

ive come across a few usb hdd (cased). I wasnt very happy with their performance. Maybe branded ones are better. The iomega 250gb is for 200$ and 500gb is for 400$, atleast till sometime back.

the performenace of externel hdds generally depends upon casing. if the casing is good, then it should not give any problems. and the performance in these is superb.

iomega are damn costly here, and again they are bulky.

Costs for HDD's have come down pretty much a 160 GB hard disk (Seagate Barracuda - with 5 year guarentee) comes at Rs. 3650 /- . I just got one yesterday.

Hey munna, if u are in Mumbai, and stay near Lamington, u can come with me ... I keep going to these shops every now and then.

The 600 bucks quoted by Munna is nothing but, a external Casing, in which u can put ur hard disk so it acts as a external USB drive rather than being inside the CPU.

Well it wil look lil odd if i use external HDD for notebook. anywyas just drop me ur number so we can plan and go lamington to check all the possblities.

Will this USB HDD consume power from notebook battery?? or wat it is le me know.

yes, usb hdd consumes power from usb port itself, so the battery's power will be used. although it consumes very very low power. but to run this you also need usb 2.0 ports, otherwise transfers will be deadly slow.

generelly its used as a backup device only and not for frequent use on the laptop.

so i would suggest either upgrade laptop hdd to 60 or 80gb or think of buying a hdd for desktop and use LAN to transfer data from laptop to desktop.

Am looking for a 1GB RAM chip for my Desktop PC. Any suggestions or recommendations over Brand and pricing? I'd prefer 2GB(if price seems fine). Its for high end CAD and Rendering purposes.

i heard that -for now altleast- two 512mb RAMs are better than one 1gb RAM.... this so?

2gb is gonna be a tight fit if 512x4... but hell, i would luv to work on that machine chirag :)

512 mb generic is costing Rs. 2300. (1yr warranty)

512mb transcend with lifetime warranty costing Rs. 2850.

1gb generic costs Rs. 4400. (1yr warranty)

will have to check transcend 1gb pricing.

note that these are all DDR RAMs.
