Unique Features of RD-2430:

Airplane Mode

This “Airplane Mode” function will turn off Radio Frequency (RF) of mobile, so user can not

make the incoming-outgoing calls, Send-Receive SMS and Data Communication etc. but

user can use the other features, such as Games, Scheduler, memo etc.

In Call Memo

It allows you to note a phone number that the other person provides you during a call. The

number will be stored in the call history with Date, Time and Caller’s name or phone number.

LMS (Long Message Service)

With the new feature LMS message, user can compose a message upto 460 characters.

To send a LMS message, compose a message in the message editor with more than 160

characters. Number of character will be changed automatically on the screen. On the

selection of send option, total number of segments formed is displayed and the confirmation

is taken from the user. User can choose continue or cancel. Each segment is sent as a

simple SMS message over the network. Messages will store in outbox on the return of

acknowledgement. Maximum 3 packets for English and 4 for Hindi messages can be sent.

Each LMS packet is received as individual message. Every LMS message shows the packet

sequence number in the message for example: in case of 3 packets, <1/3>, <2/3>, <3/3>.

Before sending LMS message, total number of SMS packets formed is intimated to the user

and confirmation is taken to send.

UDB: (Hindi Dictionary)

Every word typed in Messages will be automatically stored in Hindi Dictionary. About 100

words can be stored in Dictionary. 101st word replaces the oldest word. Thus, a FIFO format

is used.

SMS to E-Mail

User can send message to e-mail address. Select option “Write E-mail” in Message> Write.

Put “E-mail id” and “Subject” before writing e-mail. Select Send option. User can get

acknowledge if configured in message setting.

1234 Services

Exciting SMS-based information services such as News, Jokes, Horoscope etc are available to

Reliance subscribers. Using the SMS 1234 services, the user will be able to access interesting

information on common subjects through SMS. User need to send Keywords in specified format

to 1234 to access these services. User may select from 11 options (1. News, 2. Cricket, 3. Joke

of the Day, 4. Thought of the Day, 5. Contest, 6. Beauty Tips, 7. Health 8. Horoscope, 9. Bill Info,

10. Unbilled Info, 11. Help)

BREW Technology

BREW (Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless) is a solution developed by Qualcomm for

downloading small applications and content to mobile phones. Found almost exclusively in

To know that Reliance has also started using BREW enabled handsets is a good thing. Previously, it was Indicom which used ( and still does use ) BREW enabled handsets. Maybe this is the wrong forum to ask this question, but, whats the difference between a BREW enabled and a JAVA enabled CDMA handset. As far as I know, Reliance mainly uses the JAVA platform for R World !

Java and Brew are two platforms which have evolved to support cross model support for the same code (similar to the java byte code). BREW stands for Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless. Btw all LG / Samsung handsets (right from N191 and RD2030 have been using Qualcomm chipsets... which makes them support BREW midlets by default).

Java was the language of preference for Reliance all along, coz of easier availablity of programmers, and easier reference (how many of u have a copy of the Brew documentation????) So Except Nokia, GTRAN (I am not sure) , and that watch handsets, all rim handsets (LG / Samsung) had brew compitablity... not just TATA ones.

BREW has open API 's for C/C++ coders, abstracting the features of the chipset (Qualcomm ones) and thus providing an easier medium to code, and also to ensure that the output is device independent. There is a strong resemblance between Java APIs offered via MIDP and the APIs offered by BREW. Both types of content can be delivered over-the-air (as can the Java VM itself).
