Puneet 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2005 Atleast its working with windows update, and that is the sole purpose for which I use IE since I got hooked upto Firefox - which incidently is a much much better browser. So no harm done.
ashoksoft 83 Report post Posted August 4, 2005 Still believe in Firefox (tried IE 7... Terrifying .. ) right now I am using IE coz I am posting from my college
harsh 1 Report post Posted August 4, 2005 ie7 is in beta stage. final release is scheduled after 6 months. so its bound to have problems as its too early to use it for users like us. its supposed to be tested by beta testers, not the end users.
anujit 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2005 Puneet: Given M$ - Google rivalry that was probably pre-programmed! Just like Yahoo & Hotmail were to junk Gmail invites! I'm with Firefox and happy. There is the occasional page or two that doesnt render well in Firefox - especially pages with JS etc and all pages with ActiveX! But people are working fast here... Symantec which offered its online virus scan only through IE (ActiveX) is now offering non-ActiveX online scanning that support other browsers. Then theres the Google bar & Yahoo bar for Firefox etc etc etc.
Puneet 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2005 You maybe right, it was actually foolish of me to try the browser on a rivals site the moment I laid my hands on it. Even yahoo reverts you to the age old plain html version of their mail on IE7. And that stub near the tabs looks AGGGGHHHHHH UGLY!!!!!!!!! Firefox rocks, and if some designers can't design their sites with firefox, I would rather not visit their sites
anujit 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2005 But where can one download a beta from? Apart from joining MSDN of course.
Vishal Gupta 4 Report post Posted August 4, 2005 I can provide the link. But don't know whether providing the URL here will be legal or not? And it managed to crash, the moment I opened gmail. It refuses to startup and now am stuck with it as I forgot to make a restore point before installing IE7. U can uninstall IE7 & restore the previous IE6 by going to Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs. Select Show Updates checkbox & U'll find an option to remove Internet Explorer 7 BETA1. anujit 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2005 Providing a link for downloading IE 7 is illegal?
Puneet 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2005 Yes it may be illegal as it has been released only to a closed community of MSDN. Anyway, Thanks Vishal for first providing the link and then telling me how to get it off too.
rEdshiFt 1 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 (edited) Run IE7 without even installing it!!!! Found this on another forum and it works! Most of us are hesitant to install IE7 particularly as it is a Beta version and will more than likely mess up your windows XP install. This method allows you to run IE7 from a directory without even installing it. 1/. First download a copy of IE7. 2/. Extract the downloaded RAR file to a directory somewhere. 3/. Then extract the file "IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe" using Winrar or similar to the same directory. 4/. Delete or rename the file SHLWAPI.DLL 5/. Open a blank page in Notepad and save this blank file to the same directory and name it IEXPLORE.exe.local 6/. You will now be able to run the IEXPLORE.exe file and use IE7. 7/. Create a desktop shortcut to IEXPLORE.exe and thats it, you are away! Notes: I am running Win XP SP2 Home page remains as normal because properties are used from those specified in Internet Options. The Favorites Menu didn't work for me, however I was able to open the Favorites sidebar from the View menu. This gave full access to my existing IE favorites which is good because I also share these Favorites with Firefox. Enjoy! THANX TO wozzle Comments Please ------------------------------------------ edit: heard from a buncha guys that this gives troubles if u got a pirated windows OS (...and thats about 99 percent of us) Edited August 11, 2005 by rEdshiFt
