Lock Down Your Pc W/ A Floppy Disk

Recommended Posts

Now this is something that even I didn't know....

1. Click on the Start menu, then click on Run

2. When the Run prompt window opens, type in syskey then click OK.

3. You have now entered the Windows XP Account Database options. Click on the Update button.

4. On the next window, your options should say you have a System Generated Password and the Store Startup Key Locally will be selected. Simply choose Store Startup Key on Floppy Disk, click OK and follow the on-screen instructions.

Congratulations, you’re done! Make sure your floppy is inside the floppy drive otherwise your computer will not boot up.

Its a security trick.

Its like making our windows like a token based system.

After applying this trick, u'll not be able to start windows without the inserting the floppy that u used in the above mentioned method.

U can make an image of the floppy, like we create images of data using NERO or other s/w.

Then u can write a CD of it.

In case if the floppy failed or corrupted, u can safely tranfer the image from CD to another floppy using neother comp...

LOL !!!! How many guys do u think will have 2 comps at home (exclude me) ... Imagine this ... I have to submit an urgent project the next day ... I switch on the comp at 2 at night and see that the floppy is corrupted....

Guess what ?? There are trillion other ways to protect a machine ... forget this ancient dinousaur of a technology... search for better tools...

Cheers
