vb86 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2005 I need to buy a 2.1 system for mainly music. It should also be able to play music at parties at decent volumes in medium size areas. Also they should be available in india. I had narrowed down to creative megaworks 250d, lansing mx 5021 and logitech Z 2300. i dont think the logitech are avaiable here. if you have any other suggestions please let me know along with the prices. Also if possible let me know the prices of these models so that i can get a rough idea on how much to bargain at nehru place.
raccoon 53 Report post Posted August 7, 2005 (edited) Whatever you buy dont ever buy Mercury (Kobian) products. I have a Mercury 2.1 system which failed within a couple days after it went out of warranty. Kobian India Service Center in Poona actually refuses to repair it ...even though Im ready to pay for it! Similar story with Mercury SMPS, etc. Creative & Altec should be good... Edited August 8, 2005 by raccoon
ashoksoft 83 Report post Posted August 7, 2005 Altec Lansing / Bose ( a bit costly) are ultimate... though I myself use Creative (as that was what my dealer had at the time of purchase)

vb86 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2005 im based in delhi. Ive already been to the lansing distru in delhi. His top of the line models were mx 5021 and cs21 or smth. Speaking of bose, the companions dont seem to be so great. Ive also heard that there are a lot of altec fakes in the market. Could anyone comment on that? It also happens that im looking for a set of speakers for my living room to connect with the ipod. Ive had a look at the bose soundock but wasnt too impressed. The acoustimass 5 sounded much better but the thing is that i also might need to chip in for an amp if i buy that.

Arun 795 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 the 2 denotes the number of satellite speakers while 1 denotes the number of sub-woofers(s). 2.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1 audio systems are commonly available.
deepu 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Higher end speakers now have wireless satellite speakers so that you can place them at any position on the room without worrying about the wires!!!
tanveer 59 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Thanks a lot. So these can be used with your audio deck, computer anything. 2.1 3.1 how much is the price difference between the various types?
Arun 795 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 The pricing varies depending upon the brand, not always on the number of satellite speakers.
vb86 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 speaking of wirelessspeakers, yes bluetooth ones are avaialble.. infact last month when i was abroad i came across many wirelss home theaters but the main draw back is that each sattelite requires batteries to power them. 2.1 speakers can be connected to devices like discmans and ipods by connecting them to the phones or lineout jack. However incase for 4.1 and upwards you need a rear speaker slot also.. so they are compatible with different amplifiers apart from soundcards for comps which support them. vb86 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 another thing, can the bose acoustimass 5 be used with audio devices like ipods by connecting them to the subwoofer like multimedia speakers or is an external amp essential.
Utsav 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2005 Thanks a lot.So these can be used with your audio deck, computer anything. 2.1 3.1 how much is the price difference between the various types? 37657[/snapback] There is nothing like 3.1 Tan! For Pricing details here is a rough sketch for budget-conscious range: 2.1: Rs. 0850/- 4.1: Rs. 1250/- 5.1: Rs. 3250/- One more thing, the DVD compatibility is upto 5.1ch systems till date, while 6.1 & 7.1 systems are meant for high end PC output for high end games. praveen.valluri 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2007 Why only one woofer allowed in the sequence 2.1 3.1 and so on We can also have more than one woofer with a sound system right please clarify about this
amtrag 20 Report post Posted October 24, 2007 Dear Pravin, Only one subwoofer is required becoz the low frequencies produced by woofers are non-directional in nature...i.e. keep the woofer anywhere in the room and still you would feel as if sound is coming only from the main speakers. It's not easy (actually next to impossible) to locate the location of a woofer by listening, hence there no need for a "stereo" pair. And even if more than one woofers are provided, there would be more of interference between them resulting in lots of unncessary boom sound. Actually, the test for a good sub-woofer well integrated with rest of the speakers is that you should perceive the sound to be coming only from main speakers and should not be able to locate the woofer.
