Tata Teleservices (TTSL) have signed a non-binding MoU with U.S. based Qualcomm to access its push-to-talk services through BREWChat solutions. The agreement also allows Tata to use other services of BREW solution.

Through this service, which is supposed to be launched in the mid of this year, users can use their mobile phones as a walkie-talkie. The users will also be able to download new games and ring tones and check their emails.

Until now, Tata has announced nothing officially about the changes, which they are going to make in their handsets to make the users avail this new service. But it is expected that some new phones will be launched in the market through which the users can access the built on Qchat technology of BREWChat which enables person-to-person and person-to-group communication between subscribers at the push of a button.

Tata Teleservices will use the same features of QChat technology of BREW in their handsets, which is specifically designed for CDMA2000 1X networks. The technology offers superior call set-up performance and bandwidth savings.

With the launch of this, Tata Teleservices can differentiate their services as multimedia messaging services (MMS), Web browsers and customized User Interfaces (UI). It is the first CDMA mobile phone operator to offer push-to-talk services outside U.S.A. and first in the world to offer BREW solutions commercially.

Tata Teleservices will offer BREW-based services to their wireless users in the six Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra. This service is also planned for 11 additional states in the next few months.
