Bsnl Broadband Tarrif Slashed

Recommended Posts

Ramchi, UL plans have no effect of speed increase. But definitly all UL users are experiencing low speeds.

@Ashokjp i am getting 2 good speed it takes 1 second to open digg.com which is one of the most busiest site in the world so it is slow.

if u r getting slow surfing speed than my assumption is u r either on unlimited plan (bsnl has reduced the overall speed of unlimited plan) or there r lost of bsnl users in ur area

btw open dns is leader in dns technology use any dns (private or public) it can not beast the query speed of opendns as they r leader in that technology!

No offense cracker ;) but let me correct you that whatever dns provider you use will be at least 10% slower overall compared to (when you have a dns server setup locally over your lan with cached entries. And for a fact no site opens in 1 sec.. (kidding) but anyway that site also opens slow for me.. takes around 20-30 seconds (initial) and 10-11seconds on refresh(since it comes half way through cached data).

What i am talking is ping latency has increased to 150%+ than what we had till December.

You might find the speed ok but if you have used a 1mbps or 2mbps connection with low latency from someone else you will notice bsnl has pathetically gone down.

They are having high ping latency and that is what is cutting down performance

For eg. see a simple ping delay to google.com

Pinging google.com [72.14.207.99] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 72.14.207.99: bytes=32 time=647ms TTL=251

The ping averages are very bad. this is the reading during evenings

Night it comes to normal around 300 (2am or 3)

Day time it hikes to 700-1000

You will find similar readings pinging any site outside Indian ISP's

@Ashokjp: I feel that it is due to the undersea cable damage...because not only bsnl also airtel and other users are also getting slow browsing speeds. Let us wait for few more days, hopefully the submarine cable will be repaired by the month end..

Cracker that ping you gave is of no use.

It is your gateway ip right ?

ping to gateway will always be under that 10-60ms delay range.

Also regarding opendns or any other dns system, dude simple question... do you think something on the net is queried faster than something right on your system ?

Ok forget the dns, we aren't talking that here..

Also gateway is different, down here kerala gateways are 59.93.x.x and also if possible try posting down your ping results to any ip outside BSNL network, "during noon / evening time.

@I feel that it is due to the undersea cable damage...because not only bsnl also airtel and other users are also getting slow browsing speeds. Let us wait for few more days, hopefully the submarine cable will be repaired by the month end..

Aah even i thought so but then this delay is due to the uprade to 2mbps only. Since there was a issue during that cable damage time but not for much, BSNL routes were changed.

BSNL routes some network through airtel, TN. but i havent seen anything like that after network started giving normal speed, then it was upgraded to 2mbps and now its going pathetic.

This is terrible -

Currently getting ping time around 900 ms for most international sites!!!

Rimweb.in for eg. averages to around 750 ms!!

Bsnl.co.in shows around 150 ms!

BSNL BB has gone to the dogs! Don't know when they are going to fix this ...and its almost impossible to get thru to their damn helpdesk! :P

And yes, I'm on the Home 900 Unlimited plan!

Oh BSNL all gateways except default one 59.93.0.1 in my location has started improving today and right now its at top performance, even damn good ping results drop from 1000 - 290ms and damn good speed.

btw regarding help desk dont ever expect anything from them apart from when you are having a situation of a total network being down.

For normal network issues, try getting hold of no. of NIB in your city and contact them. They are bit better than customer care executives.

Ok i dont have a exact explanation to NIB.

Well they are the ones performing network related things (basics only), and your plan ugpradations (once request forwarded from cust. care) and checking your line etc. Cust. Care is just to listen to ugly talks.

NIB-->National Internet Backbone

That is just a general definition to that term

But in case of bsnl, what NIB does is as said above and they have such teams at each place..

afterall its bsnl :P

Havent you read this topic?

Dont you think at least one need 2mbps reading this topic ?

Your view comes under a fraction of people who arent interested in much use of internet. Apart from that people just need more speed.

I believe thats where I sometimes get people who can talk a tiny bit of sense. But as I said getting thru is almost impossoble, as its permanently engaged. The call centre guys are worse than hopeles...

Right now getting a ping of around 450 ms. Not good ...but much better than yesterday! And its not constant...

Try reconnecting a couple of times and get into a gateway which has lowest ping latency and keep browsing fast :GirandoOjos:

Hi,

well well well i am using internet for the last 7 years and by my experience i know we dont need these so called MBPS speed ....... coming to my point what i meant by my reply is that even if we get 128/256 kbps speed(with unlimited upload/download) i think people in india would be very much happy ...... what i said is the thinking of majority of people in India so thats all i want to say mate.

Hi,

I also would like to make a point just providing 2 MBPS wont do any good until and unless they provide 2 MBPS with unlimited upload/download.....

U can take a poll on this topic right now people would vote for unlimited 128/256 speed with unlimited upload/download bcoz they know BSNL will never offer 2 MBPS with unlimited upload/download.... so buddy i am realistic not day dreaming mate...

I wouldnt mind when there is a fact that bsnl gives unlimited @ night. and that itself solves the factor for me.

For other times i have got enough gb's.

How much would you download in a unlimited plan ?

What is your usage ?

Some ppl insist unlimited when they are themselves not sure about their download ranges. For those who are sure, they will benefit this from 2mbps.

Also dude, not just 2mbps providers will change to 2mbps unlimited in a short span of time.. Competition never ends.

Hi,

I can easily download 500 MB/1 GB daily if a provider gives me the freedom with unlimited plan

upload/download.

so thats around 15/30 GB a month ( i download games, music, software, movies)

For those who just access their email a/c 2 mbps is for them only bcoz they can check all their email

a/c within some minutes and chat for some time....... and then they will log off ..... as 2 MBPS is available with only 400 MB download during

day time.................

as for night unlimited is concerned that i dont think is applicable for all users .. yes some do download

during the night time but still i would prefer a internet provider who can offer me 128/256/512 KBPS

with unlimited upload/download with no preference to day usage or night usage ......... India needs

internet penetration first .......... as for your saying dear 2 MBPS with unlimited upload/download that thing will

definitely take some time mate i dont think its gonna happen in 2007 ......

We should be happy and more than satisfied mate if we can get unlimited internet .......... what i am saying

is that we do require UNLIMITED internet plan rather than Broadband speed ........... Yes some users

might say India needs broadband speed but for me and for the majority of people in India i do know

they all will be more than happy with UNLIMITED Internet rather than Broadband............

My recommendations r

128 kbps with unlimited upload/download charges should be 400/month

256 kbps with unlimited upload/download charges should be 600/month

512 kbps with unlimited upload/download charges should be 900/month

2 MBPS would be ideal for BSNL when it launches its IPTV........... where it would be make sense bcoz

there one will be able to make full use of 2 MBPS by making voice calls, browsing internet and watching

all the cable TV channels....

I also think BSNL and other internet providers

should now think abt Wi-fi or Wimax bcoz thats what the future of internet is all about.

Firstly, let me tell you bsnl has doubled limits on all plans, there are plans giving 4 and 8gb space at reasonable rates.

And also in my case, i download gb's movies and all each month, i was indeed on a unlimited plan earlier. But when checked data usage, leaving night unlimited timings, my usage comes to around few gbs only (whereas my total download exceeds 10gb each month)

as for night unlimited is concerned that i dont think is applicable for all users .. yes some do download

during the night time but still i would prefer a internet provider who can offer me 128/256/512 KBPS

That would be your personal preference, whereas majority need speed than sticking on to a term unlimited. Where people can schedule hefty downloads to the night scheme and do the urgent with standard plans, 2mbps suits always.

You said you download games etc?. why cant u think of scheduling it to night download. You dont have to be awake at that time. Just schedule your proggie to do it.

Its all the way how you take it. Just that you plan your schedule right and you can make your way out.

Everything doesn't come right to your way as you need it. You ought to make one step from your side too. If you need to have that speed at an affordable rate, then you need to compromise your schedule. Else if you cant spare time, you shouldn't be compromising the tariff.

If you still cant adjust to it, go for a better stuff that might be more costlier. 256 kbps and 128kbps unlimited are all given on tata indicom broadband with rates from some 800rs. if u need 512 take 2 connections and combine it. You need to choose from your money or schedule.

Regarding the unlimited upcoming tariff, BSNL has proposals for upgrading 256 unlimited to 512 and airtel has plans to shift to 2mbps.. If you are lucky u might be getting that.

i don't know about other indians but i am really thankful to our telecom minister and bsnl people for providing such a great speed and increasing the usage limit from 1gb to 2.5gb <_<

previously i was on airtel gprs and the speed was crap 4-5KBPS limit was unlimited but what is the use ! at that speed i can only download200mb / day

waste of time and resources.

waste of money

big electricity bill

at least now we can proudly say that we live in India and we get 2mbps speed @affordable rate :GirandoOjos:

Torrents, Gnutella, eDonkey all worked fine for me here in Poona ...that was before they screwed up the speeds!

And yes, I always get a direct connection ...ie. open listening ports ...which means a high id on eDonkey. :SI:

The biggest problem is that its an asynchronous connection ...so I can only upload at around 6.5 kBps which in turn means download speeds are severely limited in most P2P like eDonkey and even Torrents to an extent. Gnutella of course, is not affected...

Users for who P2P is the main concern, should avoid asynchronous connections like BSNL braodband.

I fully Agree AshokJP

Speed is the Key

Getting 128 KB with Unlimited is not a Right Choice

And by DOT Explantion all Connection which can Provide 256 KB or Better and Which is Always on can only Termed as Broadband, 128 is Definately out of Question in this World where you can event Listed Stereo Radio on Net.

And Now a Days 128 K is Provided by CDMA and EDGE,

2 MBPS is the Best thinhg we can have. Do everything Fast and Hive off it. We can save Electricity, our energy, Time in that. than Waiting in 128 and Keeping machine for 24 Hours on.

Regarding Unlimted 2 MBPS

Dear This is not Possible with current Band width Chunk we have in our Contry (You apply Whatever Logic but its Difficult to Implement)

bsnl gives public ip

and also

upload cap is 256kbps.
