Sms Character Limit Problem With Lg Rd 2130

Recommended Posts

hi all,

i recently boaught a new lg rd 2130 phone.

it works fine but it has got only 140 character sms limit.

so i always get the message truncated if its big.

also message doesn't come in two parts like it used to happen in

my old nokia GSM phone.

so is it a problem with reliance network or with the phone?

if its with the phone, then are there any tweaks to solve this problem?

hoping for replies.

bye.

you can try the SMS Limit Barrier trick I explained in one of my previous posts , where instead of the byte change for SMS Limit, try to change the size limit byte (not tried yet... can try if needed) and please note that I have tried all my experiments on a RD 2030 and on no other phone... I will definetly try on other models soon

Cheers

Ashok

It is not a problem with the Reliance network, but the handset simply has 140 characters limit for both incoming and outgoing SMS. I guess you did't know about it before you brought it ? You may try Ashok's 'trick', and I hope you are techie enough to work it out !

As I had mentioned earlier, this problem exists for not just the RD2130; but all RIM phones (save perhaps the latest ones with LMS ...not sure if they have really solved the problem, though). Its just that the problem is more acute with the 2130 (since limit is 140 chars), because normally 160 characters is taken as 1 SMS. Now if someone using a GSM (which can send concatenated SMSes in significant multiples of that limit) sends a RIM phone an SMS, then that SMS is simply not delivered ...not even truncated! This is simply preposterous!!

Well, be happy that you are at least getting the truncated messages!

The least they should do is to split the GSM originated concatenated SMS into multiples of 160 and send it to the RIM phone! And this seems to me a network adjustment! I have made this suggestion twice to the Chairmans office ...and no response! The Customer care people had the gall to tell me that it is a GSM "problem"! :)

And could any users here with the new LMS phones please tell us about their SMS experience?

That is a different issue which ofcourse has to be configured in their network, even I have sent them suggestions for that long before. But the LG RD 2130 is configured to receive SMS characters of upto 140 only.

College timings do not let me experiment too much!

Hey Ashok

could you pls explain the sms limit barrier trick..

would want to try it out myself..

i have another intresting observation..

Most times when i get long messages they get truncated...

but yesterday i got a long msg from bsnl network.. and it was properly spilt into two different sms...

so is it network specific?
