These are dangerous developments ...if not checked, we will soon have lots more of these mediocre people trying to teach us "morality"!

Raccoon,

It is not about morality instead about safety of the students. It is the responsibility of the college authorities to make sure that college campuses are not exploited for non-curricular activities.

About one year back young school students caught on mobile phones indulging in indecent activities. After that those kids would have gone thru terrific mental trauma and probably their education career must be in doldrums by now.

With mobile phones around the campus you can imagine worst thing that can happen. Some students may threat others by capturing private moments in the hostel. It is not the question of morality at all.

These are all nice rationalisations to curb individual freedom! Firstly, if someone wishes to undertake "indecent" activities which are not a nuisance to others of course, its their business! And I thought the issue here is about cell phones in general ....not specifically camera phones. Camera phones, I think do also pose a threat to individual privacy ...so that could be a problem.

you are taking exactly the stand taken by the principal of the school.

she not even once talked about her responsibility that kids were having sex in the campus. instead she said that camera phones should be banned.

that means kids can indulgee in everything that they want but it should not be taped.

Students indulging in indecent activities when caught by school authorities can be punished without affecting their future. With their actions caught on mobile every single citizen in this country would know what these kids have done. Do you think this is a desirable situation? As some one mentioned here that people may take a mobile where cameras can be hidden! In hostels it is easy to capture private moments. In classes this will be a distraction overall this will not be a healthy situation for students who are expected to excel in their curriculum activities.

Outside the campus you are welcome to indulge in any activities that please your sensory organs. But inside, one must accept rules and regulations. This is the same case when you deal with organizations as well. Many organizations do not allow mobile phones inside their premises. If you do not agree with them you are welcome to find another place.

This is a real nonsense even at the work place; during serious discussions, training sessions, meetings and doing concentrated activities we easily get distracted with mobile phone calls.

Nobody is suggesting that one conducts oneself where one is a nuisance to others. Yes, people do this all the time ...thats different. For eg., how many times have we been disturbed by people speaking loudly on mobiles in movie theatres? So then do we ban phones in movie halls? Well, I take my mobiles to movies, but I absoultely make sure that no one is disturbed by it. Basic etiquettes must be in place ...that is another issue! Let us not mix issues!!

precisely. technology will have angels and demons in its kitty always. The important thing is for the people to be responsible and understand what should be done and what not.

Freedom with reponsibility is all that is required.

Do u know that small cams and spy cams sell for as low as 1000 rs. So a kinky student will still make a movie without ever getting anyone to know. will banning the phones help in such a case?

Banning has never been successful. More so in India.

Be it alcohol, smoking pornography, just about everything. On the contrary there may be a rebound increase and some may try unlawful thingsto procure things they are deprived of.

By the way have they banned Mobile phones in any other country? (schools/ colleges)

There are some ppl whose age-old minds, u jus cant change!! I had been to Satyabama, myself. And trust me, they can actually take you to the stonehenge days!! Its sad!!

As if, without phones, there is going to be no distractions and no indecency!! Whom r they fooling? Why do they have common TVs in the hostels and why shud then students be allowed to watch TVs at home? They want to control everything!!

Its jus that they are not able to absorb CHANGE! Like we have professors in architecture, who still advocate Pencil n Hand Dwgs! No hard feelings, but they belong to that age where they enjoyed the pain in doing it! They still believe, that if we draw on computer, we get the dwg automatically! Damn it, we still have to design on computer! Its jus a drafting tool and nothing more! ;)

If moral values are under consideration, no bans have helped! Not even a ban on Talibans have helped till date!

Ban in Mumbai University on fones in general has been on since a long time now. I was even a part of the anti-mobile squad wherein we could confiscate mobile phones if we found anyone talking inside the college premises. Fortunately for us, we had a special room (only for the squad) where we could practice our mobile speech skills... So anna has come pretty late in that i feel.

As for the wacking, WACK GEETA.... Hit her with anything. If you can't find anything to hit with, throw me at her (ofcourse lifitng me would be a herculean task for u ppl ;) ). Can assure u that she will suffocate !

As for my opinion, thrz no solution to the menace just by banning something. Infact, the more the ban, the more the black-activities which may prove 'detrimental' to chicks like Geeta or give her "the reason" to fight this anti-privacy stuff. :help:

Btw chirag, whoz this Satyabhama ??? New chick or what ?

I am talking about distraction in the class room and college hours. Another concern is safety of students and their privacy. This are not an imaginary things and these are happening everyday. The adverse impact that bring upon young students may be sometimes irrevocable.

With mobile phones, digicams et al in the class room, you can hardly call that place as a college. No one is taking the freedom outside college premises.

Where there is civility there is no need for explicit rules but for barbarians you need one!

I don't think camera phones should be banned per-se.

But Dayanidhi Maran / TRAI should levy a charge of 30 paise ADC per photograph clicked.

That will ensure that lots of photos are not clicked (usually the indecent photographers are cheap and poor leechers) .... they won't like to pay up.

Hence, Govt. should take financial means to attack the problem of indecent photography.

HOOOO: I just fancy if someone is yet take my indecent pics .... I hope I was considered "photgenic" enough :-)

Yeah charging money surely will stop sex videos! Of course 30p is just the right price not to take pictures of Kareena Kapoor making out!

LOL !!!! ROFL!!! RMAOL!!! Anujit that was a classic reply!!! seriously I fell off my chair *yeah there seems to be a small crack on the floor also...

But guys... think rationally, ban a mobile cam... we will have digicams... ban a digicam .. we still have that old cam which runs with the reel ... and a scanner ;) so stopping mobi-cams is not a real choice ...

as many others pointed out .... it is here to stay, come what may !

Cheers

Ashok
