Sending Mails From Outlook Express

Recommended Posts

Hi,

exi

I happen to have a vsnl account and have recently aquired Rconnect. I'm able to receive mails but unable to send any mails. Following error message was thrown up while sending :

An unknown error was returned from the SMTP server. Account: 'krrk', Server: 'smtp.vsnl.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '521 Service not available.', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 521, Error Number: 0x800CCC61

I've searched thru the forum for existing solution and have not been able to find one. Can someone please help me in this?

Regards

R Krishna

Incoming mail server : pop.vsnl.com

Ougoing mail server : smtp.vsnl.net

I've also enabled (ticked) the "My Outgoing Server requires authentication" tab

Is there anything else I've missed out?

Thanks

no you will not be able to send the mail through outlook or any other client unless u connect with their own service only. this happens with vsnl/bsnl both. i have long back confirmed it with their customer care also. SMTP server doesnt work in this case. i too have both reliance and bsnl connection but i have to connect with bsnl service in order to send mail with their (sancharnet) account through e-mail client software. Yes but their web based email will work without any hassle with any of the internet service.

That wont work for 2 reasons:

1. Your gmail server settings are wrong. SMTP works on port 425 or something not 25.

2. No (worthwhile) mail service provider allows 3rd party forwarding.

------

So your best bet is to install a SMTP server on your computer. There are tons of easy to use free ones on the internet. Or you can use IIS that comes with Windows 2k & above.

Cracker:

As I said "no WORTHWHILE" ISP allows 3rd party mail forwarding because thats the way SPAM propagates and this is a standard security measure that almost all ISPs are implementing to prevent their systems being used as relays for spammers.

Also you run the risk (of sooner or later) being tossed into a JUNK MAIL filter because of that this. Of course you could get caught a junk mail filter for using your own SMTP server too.
