InfoGeek 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 (edited) Hi everybody, I have reliance R Connect freedom plan. I've LG LSP 340E phone set. My d/l limit for a month is 1GB. I usually check my unbilled usage on reliance's website regularly. Last month, i didn't download much and my unbilled usage was 365 MB. Then, i decided to download a file ~600 MB. I kept my computer running for 2 days and the download was complete. But when i checked my unbilled usage, it went upto 1167 instead of 365+600=965. I was shocked. Then my new billing cycle began, It started showing my unbilled usage as 181 MB. Then suddenly, it changed to 44 MB. Then, i downloaded my bill from reliance site and I was really shocked to see my usage. It was reported as 1329 MB. and i was charged rs 2/mb above 1 GB. I definately knew what i've downloaded. I've not downloaded more than 1000 MBs. And they are showing a difference of at least ~300 MBs. I called CC, they were clueless about that. They told me that the bill was correct and i have infact downloaded that much. But when i insisted they registered a complaint and after a while I got a call on my phone from CC. I narrated the whole thing to that guy. I asked for the daily usage details but they declined to e-mail me that. Then i asked about those two days when i downloaded 600 MBs, and the guy told me that my usage for those 2 days was 870 MB. How can that happen. I think there is a bug in the accouting software that keeps track of my usage. Have you guys experienced such things. And I need advice on what i can do with that. I've already got my Bill. They have charged me Rs 610 extra for my excess usage. Edited October 11, 2005 by InfoGeek
amitstg 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 usage is always a combination of download+upload data, at the moment u download something some data is uploaded too. i am also using reliance freedom plan since last 4 months, but my unbilled usage at the site and in the bill are always lower than expected. InfoGeek 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 (edited) I know some data is uploaded also. But It cannot be that much. It's almost negligible when one downloades a file. In my case, when i downloaded that ~600 MB file, It should have been around 5 MBs or so(and not 270 MBs). Edited October 11, 2005 by InfoGeek
amitstg 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 there is no way to get accurate logical data detail from reliance, they could provide u a usage chart that i suppose no one can understand. so no other way than to pay the bill

Arun 795 Report post Posted October 11, 2005 I haven't experienced any wrong or excess usage in R-Connect's unbilled usage till now. Usually, the usage shown is lower than what bandwidth meters like DUmeter logs. I guess the CC guy told you over phone that you had downloaded 870 MB over those 2 days ? Since you have a complaint registered, try insisting on a printed proof of it.
raccoon 53 Report post Posted October 12, 2005 I just tried comparing the data logged on the BSNL site (dataone) with my usage. Used DU Meter's stopwatch. Twice I checked ...their site is showing significantly more ...for eg. latest reading I got on DU Meter is 1.58 MB (upload+download) ...and the DataOne site coolly shows 2.45!!! So you see, BSNL can beat RIM any day at cheating! Something seriously needs to be done about all this... And Infogreek, your method of measuring cant be even close to accurate. For eg. you have taken into ac the file size you downloaded, but other data could have been transmitted unbeknown to you ...like maybe your AV or Windows updated itself few times or even possible spyware/trojans took up some bandwidth. Id suggest you do a proper test using dedicated software before arriving at a decison.
InfoGeek 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2005 I'm not saying that my estimate is accurate but the difference between my estimate and theirs is huge. I downloaded a file of about 600 MBs. Put some overhead and other things in there, the estimate should be around 700 MBs but still can never be 870 MBs. Also I always have windows update disabled, and my system is clean of spyware/trojans. So there is no chance that something else sent or downloaded the data. Also the CC guy told me that on one of the two days i downloaded 421 MBs and i remember on that day i just downloaded for about 10 hours. Can you hope to download 421 MBs in 10 hours given R Connect's speed. My rough estimate(from my experience of 6 months with R Connect) is about 20-30 MBs/Hour average. Meaning that, I could not have downloaded more than 300 MBs. BTW, I saw a thread on this forum about download usage monitors and now I'm using RAS that logs my usage. I'll post the differences soon(when i d/l some big file again).
