Normally you get a dynamic IP address, That means, you get a different IP address every time you login. Your IP address stays the same as long as you are logged in.

Umm...NAT isn't so much of a problem for ISPs. It saves them heck lot of money! Imagine giving each and every user of the ISP a public IP! It will cost them too much if their user base exceeds a million or so. IPv4 simply doesnt have so many IPs to give out. Just imagine how much money they will save if they NAT 10 people behind a single router which has a public IP! 10 for the cost of 1!

But wouldn't mainting a log be difficult? I mean, the NAT assigns arbitrary port numbers each time, so in order which order visited a particular site at a particular time..it would be very difficult. Another thing is, many groups oppose the use of NAT as it is against the OSI model, which suggests that port numbers should be used only for processes and not for identifying host computers,

True to an extent, but if u have been reading the news lately ... there were certain issues with the boom of the internet in the last couple of years, and re-constitution of the OSI layer diagrams.... Consider this, when using a nat (BTW FYI adwait, u have NAT's where the routing is done to ADDRESSES similar to running a proxy server, instead of using a port addressal.) u are actually reducing the overall MAINTAINANCE LOAD on the home range ISP.

For Eg. My ISP (Ganesh Cable, gets its connection from Pacenet) as far as pacenet is concerned, Ganesh pays them monthly for a limited range of IP's offered. What Ganesh does is allow all the users it has via NAT Router (Microtek is used... if anyone wants to see the setup, just gimme a call, and come over to antop hill... the chap is a good friend of mine), and similar to a proxy server (but bypassing the disadvantages using a proxy), all users (almost 10 times the number of users, for which ganesh pays pacenet) get to use the net simultaneously.

One more fact, the logging on most hardware NAT's and routing of information is still mangaed by a software, so yes there are issues here too...

Bole to?? NAT's normally get the date from the internet and then send it to the proper private IP address on the network. But this is done INSIDE the NAT by assigning arbitrary ports to each request. So that when the reply comes from the internet on that port, the router knows which computer had started the process for which it has assigned that port number and accordingly forwards the packets to that computer.

MTNL broadband @ Rs 199

In a major incentive to the consumers, state-run Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Ltd on Thursday indicated lowering of broadband tariffs by 50 per cent to Rs 199 per month from Rs 399, a move that could give private operators a run for their money.

"We have crossed 51,000 mark in Delhi alone and total subscriber base of over 90,000. We are adding more than 500 subscribers every day each in Delhi and Mumbai. We are targetting to take the number to 2,000 a day," MTNL chairman and managing director R S P Sinha said.

On the tariff front, Sinha said new tariffs would be announced soon, may be in a day or so, giving indications of it to be Rs 199 with similar amount of downloading previously.

Facing a huge rush for new connections, MTNL has also outsourced some of its activities, especially installation of broadband connections to outside agencies, Sinha said, adding that "currently we have hired only two agencies on the basis of tendering process. We may have to hire more agencies to meet the demand."

In another major plan for its subscribers, MTNL is contemplating offering free calls among subscribers provided each consumer buys three connections -- Fixed Line, Mobile and Broadband.

This would be possible as the calls within the network do not carry any levy obligation to be paid to another operator.

MTNL has a target of adding 500,000 broadband subscribers by the end of current financial year.

"I am confident of meeting the targets as the demand for MTNL broadband has been phenomenal," he said.

Haha. No takers for MTNL broadband I guess.... They are plain stupid. They need to open up the hordes of bandwidth that they are sitting on! There wont be a real "rush" for their connections until they give UNLIMITED downloads!

You dont pay the safe keeping charges regularly dude.....that's just when you want to keep your phone in safe keeping ie: Suppose you rae going out for a month, then instead of paying the Rs. 590 rental of ADSL, you can just pay 100 for safe keeping (u can't use the net......but when u restart using it, you don't have to pay installation).
