Reliance To Hold Mobile App Contest

Recommended Posts

Reliance Infocomm has launched the Mobile Application Contest 2005, the second such contest held under the aegis of Reliance Developers Programme (RDP), to encourage mobile application development in the country.

Reliance Developers Programme was launched in December 2002, to harness application development talent for the Reliance Application Platform. Over 16,000 individual developers and 800 Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), besides scores of small and medium enterprises have so far enrolled under the program.

Some of the winning applications during this year's contest will find their way to R World, the mobile data application suite of Reliance India Mobile. Others will receive certification from RDP. The latter will be at liberty to sell their applications to any handset manufacturer or service provider, anywhere in the world.

About a third of R World's 150-odd applications have been developed under this program.

Three of the top four winning applications last year were deployed on R World. Of these, Reliance maintains, the "My Cartoon" application attracts about 700,000 users a day, while the "Call History" application is particularly popular with the physically challenged.

The contest will be held under categories like "Individual developers", "Software companies" and "Student". Aspirants can send their entries to dadp.com, between November 1, 2005 and January 31, 2006.

Mahesh Prasad, president applications and solutions group, Reliance Infocomm, said, "Mobile applications the world over is one of the fastest growing software segments, and India is one of the world's major data markets today. We will continue to support and harness the country's mobile application development community."
