IC£MAN 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2005 Beware of 2-Way GLASS !!!!! Please share this information with your friends, family and all. Have you seen recent advertisement of M/S SAINT GOBAIN GLASSES shown in TELEVISION'S? - Then you must have known about 2 Way mirror & is also shown in Hindi Movie HUMRAAZ) How to determine if a mirror is 2 way or not (Not a Joke!) Not to scare you, but to make sure that you aware. Many of the hotels and textile showrooms cheat the customers this way & watch privately. HOW TO DETECT A 2-WAY MIRROR When we visit toilets, bathrooms, hotel rooms, changing rooms, etc., How many of you know for sure that the seemingly ordinary mirror hanging on the wall is a real mirror, r actually a 2-way mirror i.e., they can see you, but you can't see them ). There have been many cases of people installing 2-way mirrors in female changing rooms or bathroom or bedrooms. It is very difficult to positively identify the surface by just looking at it. So, how do we determine with any amount of certainty what type of mirror we are looking at? CONDUCT THIS SIMPLE TEST: Place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface and if there is a GAP between your fingernail and the image of the nail, then it is a GENUINE mirror. However, if your fingernail DIRECTLY TOUCHES the image of your nail, then BEWARE, IT IS A 2-WAY MIRROR! (There is someone seeing you from the other side). So remember, every time you see a mirror, do the "fingernail test." It doesn't cost you anything. It is simple to do. This is a really good thing to do. The reason there is a gap on a real mirror, is because the silver is on the back of the mirror UNDER the glass. Whereas with a two-way mirror, the silver is on the Surface. Keep it in mind! Make sure and check every time you enter in hotel rooms. May be someone is making a film on you. Ladies : Share this with your friends. Gentlemen : Share this with your sisters (if any), wife (girlfriend(s)), and daughters (if any). This is all thanks to my friend Bunny from xbhp

SexyGurl 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2005 May I request you all to post here, the places (eg. Hotel addresses), where you did find 2-way mirrors. I would also like to check 2-way mirrors, though from the other side. Though, I am still short of money to buy a camera phone. ---- ICEMAN: You shouldn't have spoilt the parliamentary decorum of rimweb, by your obscene posting or atleast, posting something which excites obscenity ... in ordinarily respectable people. And anyway, the test you suggest is to technically complicated. Here's an easier one: Throw a stone or a brick at the mirror. If it doesn't break, it's a 2-way mirror .. otherwise a normal one. rEdshiFt 1 Report post Posted October 28, 2005 (edited) update: hey guys, the testing has been done. And i didnt find the desired 'difference' in the finger-tip test. Donno whats wrong... Something to do with the relative darkness on either side of the mirror, im guessing. no hotel dude, our dean has a 2x4 piece of this trick mirror is his office door ! - beleive it (no, not the dark sun-shaded ones, the real thing.) ... had to wait till he left office to check Edited October 28, 2005 by rEdshiFt

You gotta check it from the side from where you cannot get to know its a two way mirror. I tried it and it works for me. One of my friends who runs a production house has it in his office. Sorry but i dont mean any offence, try it again.
rEdshiFt 1 Report post Posted October 28, 2005 (edited) No offense taken, but try this - http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/mirror.asp started googling after i came back... its NOT true... looks like its one of those urban myths afterall found this intersting case of reversal though - its a public toilet where you can see evrything happening outside but people cant c u in there... WIERD... I dont think i can ever releive myself in there. Edited October 29, 2005 by rEdshiFt
linuxguy 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 These kinda mirrors are real. I dont know about them in India but they are a real menace in the US and European countries. Even Oprah's show had carried a special show on this problem. They adviced women & men to carry torches and shine them at mirrors in changing rooms, rest rooms etc.... If the light is reflected then the mirror is ok but if it isn't then its a two way mirror. I guess the fingernail trick will do the job too.
ashoksoft 83 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 Accepted that such mirrors are in use, even in my office the training room windows are made of this thing, where (we last benchers) were caught watching some nice pics, coz the trainer could see what we were watching.. but hey... I am quite sure it will not be that simple to conceal the stuff onto a mirror latch..... But yes precaution taken Sarin bhai Cheers Ashok
rEdshiFt 1 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 OF COURSE the mirror is real !! maybe u didnt understand what im saying - the "finger-nail test" is a hoax / urban legend. the best way to find out is to use the lights to our advantage, like linuxguy had said -shine a torchlight. SexyGurl 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 the best way to find out is to use the lights to our advantage, like linuxguy had said -shine a torchlight. ... or use a brick, like bhutes had said. city02 63 Report post Posted November 7, 2005 everyone, its a ONE way mirror that you mean! two way mirrors are simply glass windows... you can see through both ways.
rEdshiFt 1 Report post Posted November 7, 2005 yup, there's a name confusion - both the names one-way and two-way mirror seems to denote this trick mirror.
linuxguy 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2005 lol u watch her crazy show lmao i suppose u might be watching those ekta kapoor serials also then lol no. It was just once while changing channels when I thought it was interesting! And ekta kapoor is
ashoksoft 83 Report post Posted November 9, 2005 well well from hotels to ekta kapoor! The glass story is partly true, coz one of my friends who works with Qatar airways (she is a Flight crew), said that they had been told to confirm accomodation status, and sign room cards after checking mirrors, window panes, etc and above all there was this rumor spreading around, amongst her friends that one of them was captured undressing, and that the pics were on the net! Cheers Ashok
MVP 3 Report post Posted November 9, 2005 So how do they check the mirrors?
ashoksoft 83 Report post Posted November 9, 2005 Focusing a torch / toy laser (somehow LED's do not do the trick, so the light on ur mobile screen is not sufficient!) Cheers Ashok
linuxguy 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2005 Yeah, the light has to be of minimum intensity...
