tanveer 59 Report post Posted November 16, 2006 and what is the advantage of mp4 over mp3 in terms of compression wihtout compromising the quality
amtrag 20 Report post Posted November 16, 2006 mp4 is meant for audio-video, so unless you have video streams to be added, there should not be any advantage...and by the way, mp4 & m4a are technically same, the user can change extensionn to m4a if the file contains audio only, even mp4 xtn works as well for audio only files. tanveer 59 Report post Posted November 16, 2006 (edited) I know all this,i need to know about the compression advantage over mp3,if we use m4a. I mean at the same bit rate, what will be the difference in size between mp3 and m4a Edited November 16, 2006 by tanveer
Vishal Gupta 4 Report post Posted November 16, 2006 m4a in 64 kbps = MP3 in 128 kbps Believe me, u can get the same quality in 64 kbps in m4a, which u get in 128 kbps in MP3. And the size will be almost half of MP3 so converting in m4a helps in reducing the size also!
tanveer 59 Report post Posted November 16, 2006 anyways i dont see the option for m4a in i tunes it only has aac or am i missing something?
Vishal Gupta 4 Report post Posted November 17, 2006 aac & m4a are same When u'll convert the MP3 into aac, the computer will show their extensions as m4a
ani_meher 42 Report post Posted November 17, 2006 Is there any image organizer that has albums, basic editing features, and tagging features like Flikr? I love Picasa, but the album support is too weak. Also there is no tag support. Picajet is ok, but the thumbnails are blurry. Any other software, preferably not a bloat in size? amtrag 20 Report post Posted November 18, 2006 m4a in 64 kbps = MP3 in 128 kbpsBelieve me, u can get the same quality in 64 kbps in m4a, which u get in 128 kbps in MP3. And the size will be almost half of MP3 so converting in m4a helps in reducing the size also! I don't know about compression advantage bcoz have not tried...but as per wikipedia: Quote "MPEG-4 Part 14, formally, ISO/IEC 14496-14:2003, is a multimedia container format " "Almost any kind of data can be embedded in MPEG-4" Unquote Since it is just a container format and not an encoding format by itself, I doubt whether it will improve compression and that too by 50%. tanveer 59 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 any idea about flac?
Vishal Gupta 4 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 FLAC stands for "Free Lossless Audio Codec", its similar to MP3 but its lossless, i.e. it compresses the audio without loosing the quality! But I hv never tried it

tanveer 59 Report post Posted December 9, 2006 That will lead to loss of quality. Why do you want to do that? You can use dBpoweramp. Free and convenient. and Nero for making MP3 DVD
