MTNL to pay compensation for raising inflated bills

Pulling up telecom major MTNL for raising inflated bills and refusing to inquire into the complaints of a consumer, a city court has asked it to pay a compensation of Rs 5,000 and decrease the bill amount by Rs 48,215.

"Whenever there is huge difference between the average bills being received by a consumer and a particular inflated bill, it is bounden duty of the service provider to conduct full scale inquiry by verifying the telephone numbers," state consumer redressal commission headed by Justice JD Kapoor said while holding MTNL guilty for deficiency in service.

The commission slashed the bill amount from Rs 67,800 to Rs 19,585 by observing "it appears that the cries of the appellant that he had never made any calls on the telephone numbers shown in the records of respondent (MTNL) during the particular billing cycle fell on deaf ears."

The order came on an appeal by one Sunil Shankar against the order of a district consumer forum, which had refused to entertain his complaint wherein he alleged that the company had raised highly inflated bills for the billing period of August 18, to December 1, 1996.

Mr Shankar, who had two telephone connections, used to receive average bills of Rs 3,119 and Rs 6,502, respectively.

However, in the month of December 1996, the appellant received bills of Rs 12,856 and Rs 54,944 for that cycle.

any one who can beat this?

and like the saying goes!

if MTNL has done it y should BSNL be behind

Same 14-digit number in two recharge-coupons in BSNL Vellore

if BSNL is the service provider for your mobile phone and if you frequently recharge the prepaid account using a scratchable coupon, watch out. You may be in for a ride like Pramod Kumar of Ambur.

Pramod recently purchased a Rs 331 recharge coupon bearing a serial number 000028777964 last month at Dharmapuri and tried to recharge his Excel prepaid account.

When he failed after many attempts, he called BSNL assistance. He was told that the coupon had been already recharged. “After calling assistance many times, I was shocked to learn that this coupon was recharged by a mobile user in Bodi two days before I purchased it,” Pramod said.

He got the mobile number of the person in Bodi and asked to him to courier the coupon to Ambur.

He found that both the recharge coupons bore the same serial number and the 14-digit number used for recharging the account. “Is it a duplicate coupon or a mistake on the part of BSNL?” he wondered.

“I have heard of counterfeit currency notes and even stamp papers. This is the first time I got fooled by a machine,” he said. BSNL sources said the 14-digit recharge number is randomly generated by a computer and unless there was a bug in the software, this can never happen and such cases would be sorted out if brought to the notice of officials.

kasam se janam janam ka saath hai :(:):)

ye dosati hum nahin todenge :):)

even if its a computer generated error! look @ the timing thats what driving me crazy laughing :):D:P boy! i dint c this one comming :(:lol:
