Vishal Gupta 4 Report post Posted November 11, 2005 Yes... you read it right... it's codenamed Singularity & MS Researchers doing it from scratch... Microsoft Research has developed a prototype of a microkernel operating system, code-named 'Singularity.' Its most surprising feature: It has nothing to do with Windows. RajanPERT 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2005 Singularity!!!! Its a good start, because windows have some problem and holes, and most susceptible to errors. Due to this, Windows popularity is descreased now a days. So i think, microsoft is decide to something new by launching a new OS. I hope, it will have some quality, not like windows. Thanks and Take Care!
linuxguy 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2005 Hehe. Seems they wanna compete with UNIX, GNU/Linux, Solaris and other UNIX like OSes. Technically Linux isn't a microkernel but who cares? Guess m$ is a wannabe UNIX club member!
ashoksoft 83 Report post Posted November 11, 2005 microkernels allow smaller code... better optimizations and above all GREAT customizablity.... earlier MS had no intentions to make a Microkernel OS, coz who would raise butts to question MS. but with google , sun etc joining hands, MS sure has reason to believe that they might come out with a open source, open platform, hardware independent ... and well lot of research has also gone into making things like washing machines and fridges intelligent... and if google becomes the first to get the base out ... MS looses a market ! so well Singularity had to happen ... though I never really searched for this ... but for long I did suspect that something of this order was in the books...
