Vishal Gupta 4 Report post Posted November 12, 2005 1.) If you watch the images from your seat in front of the computer, Mr.Angry is on the left, and Mrs.Calm is on the right. Get up from your seat, and move back 12 feet, and PRESTO!! they switch places!! I believe this illusion was created by Phillippe G.Schyns and Aude Oliva of the Univ. of Glasgow. This proves that we may not be seeing what's actually there, all the time!! 2.) Its a not a gif , its a jpg hence a non animated image, but if u look at it the circles look like they are rotating. (Click on the Thumbnail) 3.) If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, you will only see one color, pink. If you stare at the black + in the center, the moving dot turns to green. Now, concentrate on the black + in the center of the picture. After a short period of time, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see a green dot rotating if you're lucky! It's amazing how our brain works. There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don't disappear.

SexyGurl 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2005 It's amazing how our brain works. There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don't disappear. It's not amazing (any more!) how our brain works. What's amazing is how the brain of the person, who built up these examples, works. Surely, a lot experimentation is behind producing all this. During course of that experimentation with human eyes and brain ... someone managed to notice a small thing. (which a lot of people could easily ignore, assuming, they were just imaging things). What's given here is an amplified version of, those small little things, which were caught during experimentation. Now a good question is .... How to change the last image, so that we get to see a moving Red colored dot, in place of green. And could we have out Red moving dot on a white background, instead of a grey one. Or on a black background. How much is the flexibility to move from a pink dots all over, to say green balls all over. ----------------------------- Lastly, now you've got a tool. We know, most human being would get deluded by such an optical illusion. How can this be used in a productive way .... or to make money ( ). If nothing practical, for now, atleast this does give some vital clues about (i) how the retina captures incoming light from outside and passes over information to the optic nerver, and (ii) how brain interprests that information. Vishal: I strongly feel, that you should pursue this TOPIC OF ADVANCED MEDICAL RESEARCH. We all Indians feel bad that not a single Indian has got a Nobel Prize for Medicine, till-date. We have high hopes from you.

SexyGurl 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 (edited) Optical Illusion ! ... I am feeling as if I am blind. Or atleast less bright. Or maybe, both. What should I see in the picture ... it seems to me that A & B squares are shaded differently and look differently. Did not understand this BAAP of all illusions ! rEdshiFt 1 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 seen the last pic b4, but no kidding - its AMAZING ! this guy - Edward Adelson, an MIT professor 'created' this one... and more. check out his homepage or try his paper on Lightness Perception and Lightness Illusions ___________________ we all are quite familiar with visual illusions... but have thought of COLOUR illusion? check this out !!! the "colorcross" BELEIVE IT OR NOT - the "cross" at the center of the two sides are the SAME color ! Yes, u heard me right - its the "grey/blue" cross and the "yellow" cross that are of the SAME color. [DONT take my word, use photoshop and use color-picker to see if its true] Feels so wieeerd
Vishal Gupta 4 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 This will clear all doubts Explanation In shadow or not, a check that is lighter than its neighboring checks is probably lighter than average, and vice versa. In the figure, the light check in shadow is surrounded by darker checks. Thus, even though the check is physically dark, it is light when compared to its neighbors. The dark checks outside the shadow, conversely, are surrounded by lighter checks, so they look dark by comparison. Proof By joining the squares marked A and B with two vertical stripes of the same shade of gray, it becomes apparent that both squares are the same. OR Remove other things from the pic and and you'll see that both are actually same ... This edited image will make it clear ...
linuxguy 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 I actually copied over the image to my desktop and tested it in photoshop! The colors ARE THE SAME! Both checks have the RGB values 6B 6B 6B
