Mahidhar 3 Report post Posted April 1, 2004 Reliance dumps private couriers The country’s largest mobile company, Reliance Infocomm, has dumped the private couriers used by it to deliver customer bills, and has instead opted for the services of the good old government postal service. The company now has bills for all its seven million subscribers nationwide delivered by the Indian Postal Service by regular post. The department of posts takes between three to four days from the time the company dispatches them to deliver the bills to the subscriber’s doorstep. Reliance Infocomm sends out over five million bills every month. It previously employed local courier companies in each area of operation, says a company spokesperson “Earlier plenty of our bills failed to reach the destination and remained undelivered. But with this tie up, the rate of undelivered bills has drastically reduced. We are aiming at a zero rate of undelivered bills,” says a Reliance Infocomm spokesperson. The company says that it chose the postal service because of its large network and has achieved substantial cost savings by using ordinary post. “We have strict delivery schedules and the best part is that the postal department sticks to it. Their service is efficient. The bills are not dropped under the door but given to a person at the subscriber’s house. Undelivered bills come back to Reliance and we follow up by calling subscribers and informing them about the same,” says the spokesperson.

I cant really believe when someone says, Indian Postal Services are more efficient! Cant buy this. Only thing that i can digest is that, their network is very wide spread. No one can beat it! Its like BSNL! And the fact that their costs would be lower, since Reliance has now tied up with them for 7mn posts a month :'( as opposed to smaller expensive courier options regionwise!
