Nokia Ties Up With Reliance

Nokia ties up with Reliance, Tata

Mobile phone major Nokia has set an ambitious target to triple its share in the CDMA-based cell phone market in Asia Pacific including India and to achieve it the company has decided to work closely with two major Indian operators -- Reliance Infocomm and Tata Telservices.

"We shall be working very closely with these two CDMA based mobile operators in India. We shall leverage our brand name to up our market share in the Indian market. Currently we have 20 per cent of the market," Nokia's CDMA business unit (Asia Pacific) Director Markku Virtanen said.

Claiming to be a market leader in Australia, Indonesia and New Zealand, he said: "Nokia ranks among top three players in India and Bangladesh."

He, however, said that Nokia had aggressive plans for India in the months to come.

Asked whether Nokia would accept the bulk orders for handsets as done by Reliance Infocomm, Virtanen said: "No, we will only go through our distribution network and this has been discussed with service providers."

Nokia is setting up a handset manufacturing facility in Chennai in southern India, primarily the GSM-based handsets.

On the issue of manufacturing CDMA-based handsets at the same facility, the top official said it was possible but no decision has yet been taken in this regard.

Following the business model practiced by Nokia for their GSM handsets, the company has launched four new handsets in the CDMA segment offering a variety to its consumers including Bluetooth enabled phones -- Nokia 2855 and 6165.

The new handsets would target the mid-tier customers and would be made commercially available in the Indian market during first half of 2006.

Other two handsets are Nokia 1255 and Nokia 2355, phones which combine modern design with an attractive price front for growth markets and they would also be commercially available during the first quarter of 2006, Virtanen said.

There is no chance that reliance launch there Netway service. This is not due to working condition of reliance, but due to govt behaviour, who change there policy everyday. I think, reliance should wait for the govt. final decisio over EVDO and 3G policy.

Thanks and Take Care!

No company want to pay some extra money. So every company want to make more clarification from Govt. side. Second thing is that Anil will not take financial risk at this time, Because, Anil working on his dream project name "Reliance Energy". So it will take time. something in next year?

Thanks and Take Care!
