Help Needed! Some Netwroking Problem

Recommended Posts

hey guys could u help me outta this problem :)

heres what i basically need

a public ip

these are the options i have

1) change to a isp which provides a free public ip

as pacenet is the only other ISP avaliable in my area and it charges RS 6000 a YEAR for a pub ip so this is not a solution

2) leave a public ip once and 4 all

other solution what i have thought of in which i need a major help

i already have a sify 256k night unlimited connection with a pvt IP

MTNL offers triband 256k connection with a public IP

http://mumbai.mtnl.net.in/triband/htm/tariff.htm

the scheme which i am looking for is DSL MTNL in which we pay as per usage

so min monthly charges in which is 80 RS RENT for CPE

rest depends on ur usage

what i need to know is there any way to connect these two internet connection on a single PC and make both work @ the same time

1) i just want to be connected to my PC from outside

2) the only download and upload MTNl should do is which i request from outside rest should be handled by SIFY <-- since MTNL charges for downloads i cant use MTNL for regular DOWNLOADS + UPLOADS

SEEMS to be conplicated to understand , isint it? ;):P

Check out powersurfer.net. Not the best speeds or the best CC. But atleast you get a public IP but its not static. A static IP costs 1000 bucks a year.

Powersurfer was owned by BSES. and BSES is now Reliance Energy! same loop! And yes, Powersurfer was way too good in Bandra, i rem. Whats its state now?

Abhay, why do u want a Static IP?

If I understand correctly, you want to have two internet connnections on the computer, one which you use normally and the toher one just so that you can have a public IP, is that right?

Well, I guess you should be able to do that. Just put in another LAN card, then get the MTNL connection and connect it to that LAN card. Now comes the hard part of configuring your computer to use nly one LAN card...........I don't really know how you would do this in Windows since its been a VERY long time since I booted into Windows, but I guess there must be something somewhere in the Control Panel>Network Settings.

BTW, MTNL provides a public IP, but its not static so you would have to look into a dynamic DNS provider if you are planning to host a site on the computer or something. Another thing is that, when someone requests a connection to your computer, some data is sent to your computer and that will be counted on the MTNL connection as download, It won't amount to much if the traffic to your site is not very huge......but just something to consider.

yup u both are right i need

MTNL for dynamic public ip

SIFY for regular downloads

i am using no-ip since the time i was in bandra and was a powersurfer so dynamic public ip isint a problem

yeah i need just to host some sites and mail server and stuff and if needed sometimes remote login and others <--- there things i have been doing since i had a net connection (powersurfer & MTNL dialup), i am having a problem with sify as i dose not give me a public ip

i need a way to solve this problem :)

Well.......like I said get another LAN card and get the MTNL connection. Now, find a way to edit routing tables in windows (google it.....its gotta be there in settings>control panel). Now set the sify router as the primary gateway. That will direct all outgoing traffic through sify. Also, each lan card will have a different IP, so when people try to access your public IP, the request will automatically go to the MTNL LAN card (you'll have to configure the router for port forwarding btw). You'll also need to configure your server software to listen to the appropriate LAN card.

chk it here http://whatismyip.com

and if u want public ip try this software

http://www.v7soft.net/hide-ip-platinum/index.htm

and chk this out to connect two internet connection to 1 pc

untill and unless i have the access to sify server and do some PORT forwarding

i'll check the M$uck link that u gave me

Here's a link on how to modify the routing tables in windows:

http://www.ss64.com/nt/route.html

Now I think what you would have to do is,

route -p ADD default MASK 0.0.0.0 if <INTERAFACE NO>

or something like this. This will ask your computer to route any requests for any website, through the x.x.x.x (1st LAN card).

The interface number can be found out by using the route -print command. Look at the hex no. that appers.....convert that to decimal using a calculator and thats your interface no. check out this site :

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...cc_tcp_gvuf.asp

This way, your MTNL connection is not used at all.

Uh...your problem is a very complicated one. You wont be able to "connect" through MTNL and then "continue" your session into sify. It's simply because, whatever happens, once your connection is transferred to Sify, you wont get a public IP means, no computer will be able to bind to a port on your IP lest the server forwards ports to your comp  . But making Sify guys do that is next to impossible!

You better go in for an ISP which provides "unlimited" connections along with a public IP

why not linux guy?? With the method I suggested.....he can have two connections going at the same time. If one of the connections has a public IP (MTNL), he can host his website fine. right?

hey buddy since it would be difficult for me to actully route my pc! and u seem to have a good knowlege over it let us assume some things and get the things started

sify side:

ip 10.12.44.*
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 10.12.44.1

dns 202.144.115.4
    202.144.66.6

this is would be my sify config and since i dont have MTNL as of now and dont plan to install it until im dead sure that it would actully work lets assume my MTNL ip as

ip 202.88.6.x <-- which is ofcourse dynamic
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 202.88.78.1
dns 202.88.115.4
    202.88.66.6

lets assume the MTNL thing and the web server is hosted on port 80 and im using no-ip client which i want to go from MTNL and not from sify servers

so now after we have assumes all these things what are the actual command/s i should supply ;)

Dude, I don't know the EXACT commands to do this since I am on linux......I can do this easily on Linux, but on windows I don't have an exact idea. But Ill try anyway,

Once you put in you second LAN card, run ipconfig. It will show you some hexadecimal number for each card.....convert this to decimal and that's your interface number. Now

route -p ADD 0.0.0.0 MASK 0.0.0.0 10.12.44.1 METRIC 1 IF <interfaceno for sify card>
route -p ADD 192.168.1.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 METRIC 1 IF <interfaceno of lan card 2>

What this does is, the first line adds a route to the internet as a whole through your sify card, so that whenever you try to access any IP address (any site) it will be routed through the sify account. The second line adds a route to your MTNL router, so that you can access the config pages of the router for config purposes. So when you are trying to access an IP 192.168.1.*, the request goes through the MTNL LAN card while all other requests go through the sify card.

Now open the router config page by going to the address 192.168.1.1 and forward the port 80 to your computer.

Again, all this is theoritical, there maybe practical difficulties which may arise at the time of connection......so I can't really say this will work 100%, but theoriitically it should work fine.

ok lemme explain to you why this is NOT possible. It's not me saying its impossible. It's the TCP/IP protocol.

The conversation between a user and your server goes like this.

Server IP : 210.x.x.x (MTNL IP, public)

Server IP : 10.x.x.x (Sify IP, private)

Client: Connect to abhay.no-ip.org

DNS: Client, abhay.no-ip.org is 210.x.x.x

Client: Connect to 210.x.x.x port 80

Server: Got connection from <Client IP> on interface with IP <210.x.x.x>

At this point, your Server has established a TCP socket from your MTNL IP to the Client IP.

Now your HTTP server (IIS or Apache) responds to the Client.

Server: Sending index.html to IP <Client IP>

Server's routing table tries to send through Sify's IP. Client starts getting data from Sify's IP on the same port as your MTNL connection had bound on.

Client: WTF? Whats this? I am getting some TCP packets from an unknown source (Your Sify IP). I hadn't sent SYN or SYN ACK.

Still checks the current connection in state "ESTABLISHED". Finds no connection was ever established between Sify's IP and it.

So...

Client: I think this PC (Your Sify IP) has mistakenly sent me the data. So I will just drop all packets...

Thats your problem :)

Hmm.......point taken.

So modifying the routing tables is not exactly a good option (maybe theres a way by which we can set it to respond to a request on 1 interface on the same interface, but I dont know it..) But there has to be SOME way.....how about you put a link to some small image or file on the public IP (common) of sify? That way, the client will establish a connection there too......and when it starts getting packets from there, it won't think WTF. I am just guessing here.......so don't laugh linuxguy :)
