amitbt22 2 Report post Posted December 16, 2005 Increasing ram to ne extent will increase d whole system performance.Internet connectivity is also a process,so less memory avalable less performance & dosent matter device u use to connect.Besides dat for faster net surfing use Browsers like opera not dat default internet explorer. Also Antivirus also slows d machine & data transfer & exchange. So opt for less memory taking antivirus. ani_meher 42 Report post Posted December 16, 2005 (edited) ie along with increase in RAM Use Firefox or Opera for browsing internet, ditch IE. Use either Nod32 or F-Prot antivirus (don't know any other low memory AVs). Stay as away as possible from any product that has manufacturer name Norton. If you are using XP, then search on the internet tricks to improve the net speed from system itself. Even that is quite helpful. I don't think those external speed boosting softwares work. But you can try those also. And last but not least, get a firewall installed. Most important thing to do before you go online. Here is one good free firewall, 'Kerio Personal Firewall', though the opinions may differ. Download at http://www.kerio.com/dwn/kpf2-en-win.exe Edited December 16, 2005 by Chirag
raccoon 53 Report post Posted December 16, 2005 More RAM will in no way DIRECTLY boost your internet throughput! Though It may let your applications run smoother, in general (or XP, its good to have AT LEAST 256 MB RAM). Nor will changing your browser make your net surfing any faster! At best browsers differ in their page rendering speeds ...which is more or less negligible! And btw, Dr. Web and F-prot require the lowest resources. NOD32 is a good AV but not exactly in their league (in this respect) but its definitely "lighter" than Norton, etc.
