raccoon 53 Report post Posted December 21, 2005 One DIMM is likely to be more efficient (faster) than two ...but in case it fails you'll be without any RAM ...whereas if you have 2 DIMMS of 128, you can always run your comp on one, till you get a replacement for the other. ani_meher 42 Report post Posted December 22, 2005 I have a 128 MB Ram. I'll be adding a 512MB RAM to it. WHat should I watch out for, like speed, make of RAM etc so that both the RAMs will be compatible?

Its good to have both the DIMMS of the same speed ...but if thats not possible, at least avoid speeds that are slower than your existing RAM. Faster should be ok. Generally, when you use DIMMs of varying speeds, the system defaults to the speed of the slowest DIMM.
