one 256 mb is better then two 128 mb , as it will give an extra slot for expansio in future .......n it will be cheaper too

One DIMM is likely to be more efficient (faster) than two ...but in case it fails you'll be without any RAM ...whereas if you have 2 DIMMS of 128, you can always run your comp on one, till you get a replacement for the other.

I have a 128 MB Ram. I'll be adding a 512MB RAM to it. WHat should I watch out for, like speed, make of RAM etc so that both the RAMs will be compatible?

Speed is what you should watch out for. Both RAMS should have the same speed. Also, if your current PC has only 128 MB RAM, it probably has an old motherboard which doesn't support a single chip of 512 MB. Check it out......

Its good to have both the DIMMS of the same speed ...but if thats not possible, at least avoid speeds that are slower than your existing RAM. Faster should be ok. Generally, when you use DIMMs of varying speeds, the system defaults to the speed of the slowest DIMM.
