Recommended Posts

hey guys too exited for checkin it out if it has already been posted here!!!! plz do d needful if already posted ! thx

BSNL Broadband Unlimited Data Transfer Package

As usual, this is breaking news on Broadband Blog.

After much wrangling, phone calls and abuses, BSNL has finally launched its unlimited access. The official notification is yet to come online- but it took enough grace on the behalf of Deputy Director General, Broadband, to give me a call and ask me to submit the application for the plan change.

For those who are following this Blog for regular updates- I would suggest that you submit your application before 1st May. Surprisingly, the Customer “Care” Centre is open on Sundays and before the billing plans change over, you’d be in a position to have the unlimited connection by 1st (hopefully). (The planned tariff is Rs 900 per month- decent I believe).

The “customer care” babu couldn’t think beyond the manual entry and was shunting me from one desk to another. I have seen the red tape and excessive fascination for rules and regulations from very close quarters. This is the naked fangs of Government of India in real life. I had to complain to the General Manager of my area to accept my application! Something that’s the job of a low-level clerk.

Arguably, the increased “competition” has made the things slightly better. BSNL has been forced to improve its service delivery; however, it remains a case of misguided enthusiasm. The average age of the customer care “executive” is 40+, which makes any enthusiasm on their behalf a BIG suspect. The men folk are pot bellied and sloppy; with reflexes so slow, that would shame a limping tortoise.

It would take some real genuine competition to shake up the things. Especially when the top heads are made responsible for the shrinking customer base. Shape up or ship out ought to be the new mantra.

There are indeed a lot of blemishes; the customer care toll free remains a model of apathy (what associated with BSNL isn’t) and despite the intentions to keep it as a central nodal agency for the complaints, it keeps you on a perpetual hold. A sorry instance of taxpayer’s money going down the **** hole.

Still, as the Broadband forums say, BSNL is government powered Broadband. We are happy to have something of substance, than be at the bottom of pyramid, like in Africa. Where arguably, the only instance of being alive is that well, you are alive.

It would take a huge post to list out the chronology of events/ chain emails/ mass mailings to the “honchos” of BSNL. I’d desist and instead focus on the other events as they are happening.

I’d like to end on a happy note here. Freedom from rationing access; and perhaps Broadband would deliver what it was supposed to do. A decent access finally. And perhaps for the FIRST time EVER in my LIFE. Unlimited Internet. Even if it crawls at 256k (best case scenario), I am happy.

This is the happiest news i am hearing after many months. Even though i am not a BSNL customer, its a great thing becoz other isp's will definitly reduce their tariffs to withstand the competition.

abhay, MTNL has already started its unlimited package in Delhi. But the cost is too much. I think its Rs.1399 without taxes. Its unaffordable by the common person. BTW this news about BSNL is still unconfirmed. Believe it only AFTER they have publicised it OFFICIALLY.

1) hey this plan is not mentioned on their Delhi website

2) yup but we would get a conformation within a two weeks time given that BSNL wont launch the pakage on time ie 1 may 2006

3) seeing the past records of BSNL and MTNL, if BSNL launched this kind of pakage for say 900 MTNL will have the same pakage for say 1k

thats good enough for me since im paying more than that to sify for their unlimited pakage

4) i have been trackin this guys posts on that blog since a long time!!! so i dont think it would be a hoax but who knows, i wish that u are wrong :clap::angry: :'( and so do all of us here

EDIT :-

some refrences

abhay, I am moderately active on broadbandforum.in's board. The fact remains that there is no official announcement from BSNL yet. BTW MTNL's delhi site does mention the plan in a small corner. They dont have the details but ATLEAST its mentioned.

I am hopeful that MTNL Mumbai will reduce the cost of their unlimited 256K plan to about 700-800 bucks.

wooo hooo!!! Great news!!! Heres the official announcement!

http://bsnl.co.in/newsarchive.php

or if you're freakin' lazy like me:

http://bsnl.co.in/newsdetailed.php?news_id=296

:D :D :D Why oh why doesnt MTNL come out with such a plan?

Abhay, 900bucks for landline ( zero rental ) + 256K connection is good for me too :D

dont want to spoil the party but i think the charges should be around 1100 bucks (monthly charges 900 + modem rental 100 + service tax)

but thats good enough for me

but here comes the main point!!! seeing past practices of MTNL their plans are always 100 - 150 more than BSNl so in mumbai similar plan would cost even more :(:(:(:angry::blink::blink:

i just hope it shouldnt cost more than 1100 bucks in mumbai too :)

yup there is a RAY of light though !! if BSNL/MTNL launch such plans i garantee you that we are gonna see a huge price DROP

in broadband charges in comming days

gr8

can existing users shift to this plan ?? ??

we are as unaware as u are buddy !! guys post some details if you people have some!! and specially about MTNL plans

PS :- thanks to MR Abhishek for corosponding to BSNL people on behalf of us :thumb::thumb: good job

Why dont you BSNL guys ask the CC or the exchange? Some people are being allowed while others aren't. Possibly due to misinformation from BSNL's side.

What is this Annual Charges worth Rs 9000? Is it paying yearly subscription in advance or some thing else?

If u pay 9000, u'll get one year subsciption, thus getting 2 months for free

whoa, thats a kick *** plan from BSNL indeed. I hope other players will join the price drop bandwagon too, or else I'll have to move to BSNL ! Can't I waive off the Rs.100 modem rental if I already have an ADSL modem ? Or is it mandatory ?

Arun, modem rental is only for the people who take the modem. Otherwise it will be waived off. I think my netgear router has a built in ADSL client. Dunno though. If not I'll buy one. I am itching to get this plan! When will they launch it in Mumbai (MTNL Ofcourse!).

hey i dont think taking it for a year would be a wise IDEA

think about it if BSNL/MTNL has done it im sure pvt players are no less!!! who knows within a months time they will give us some better options (like lower installation charges/public ip etc etc etc) after all BSNL/MTNL are all over india and pvt players will have to do something to capture the market

If u pay 9000, u'll get one year subsciption, thus getting 2 months for free :'(

you and for that 2000 bucks you can purchase a ADSL modem from them :'(

nah not madatory

CPE stands for Customer Premise Equipment. This would consist of an ADSL modem/router and a stand-alone or a build in splitter to separate the telephone and broadband connections. You can purchase your own CPE or BSNL can provide the same. There are three options for getting the CPE from BSNL. Option I - Outright Purchase from BSNL for Rs 1200/-??Option II - Use BSNL modem by paying advance monthly rental of Rs 100 and refundable Security Deposit of Rs 500/-??Option III - Free Modem. MTNL Delhi has also launched a similar plan, but with much more tariff than BSNL. It is the TriB Unlimited Plan with 256 Kbps unlimited data transfer.

But, compared to BSNL this is way costlier....monthly rental on 1399 + 80 for CPE + Service tax...It would come around 1650 a month. It is not very clear from the website, but it sems you might have to pay additional 249 as telephone rental, which seems to me mandatory + call rates of 1.5 per pulse (i am not sure for the voice rental as it is not clearly stated on the website). Also, there is no option of annual payment of broadband rental. It is not also clear from the website if the existing customers can shift to this plan, I am a bit skeptical as all their earlier TriB plans were meant for the new subscribers only.

Total loss.....Airtel will always be a better choice for 1000 per month + plus no voice rental. Only drawback with Airtel is that yu get the 256k+ speeds only during night and during day hours it is 150-180 kpbs on an average. Still better than MTNL.

Yeah, MTNL is charging waay too much. But I guess they will bring down their prices after a few months. Airtel is coming up in a big way in Mumbai and its already well established in Delhi. I dont think customers would want to go in for MTNL in Delhi or Mumbai if airtel is low cost, better customer service and gives good speeds.

We are getting 256 Kbps(Exatt) unlimited for Rs.3600.00(Six month)

600rs unlimited hmm good

but 25kb/s which is ur max is only 200kbps??

still a good offer.

hmmm, mohan... those are some good plans from Exatt ( http://www.xbroadband.in/html/schemes.htm ). The 6 month scheme is surely a winner. But Exatt is available in limited areas in Mumbai, Pune, Banglore and Delhi

BTW, you should be getting around 30 kB/sec for a 256 kbps connection. I get 30 - 32 kB/sec constant speed on my 256 kbps TATA Indicom while downloading. Upload speed is also the same (256 kbps) for me.

How about the experience with BSNL DataOne downloads ? Do you get the advertised speeds ?

dataone gives speeds around 30 not for upload

upload its drastic around 10-15 only. (they mention that clearly in FAQ)

i would like to add something extra to what Arun said

even if Mumbai, Pune, Banglore and Delhi ! they are not avaliable in each and every area in the city while BSNL/MTNL are avaliable in almost complete india thats a major diffrence

hey guys i whated to know what is the upload speed in the unlimited plan is it 64k or >

in FAQ they have mentioned the upload speed would be 512 kbps or the download speed which ever is lower

do they give speeds what they promise ??
