Puneet 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2006 "W"CDMA is not same as CDMA. W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) is a type of 3G cellular network. W-CDMA is the technology behind the 3G UMTS standard and is allied with the 2G GSM standard. More technically, W-CDMA is a wideband spread-spectrum 3G mobile telecommunication air interface that utilizes code division multiple access (or CDMA the general multiplexing scheme, not to be confused with CDMA the standard). Ramchi 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2006 My understanding is, existing CDMA will migrate to EV-DO while GSM providers will migrate to W-CDMA/UMTS. I think people are getting confused of CDMA and WCDMA! Still TRAI is mulling on spectrum policy. So I do not consider this rumor as credible.
Puneet 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2006 @ Ni****h: Please browse through the link I posted above to know how different is WCDMA from CDMA. If Reliance will upgrade it will to EV-DO and not WCDMA. WCDMA is a upgrade path for GSM, though it shares the name with CDMA. I repeat CDMA in WCDMA stands for "CDMA - the general multiplexing scheme" and not the "CDMA Standard" that Reliance follows.
