Reliance to buy handsets from Taiwan's Dopod

AGENCIES[ MONDAY, JULY 24, 2006 02:40:26 PM]

TAIPEI: Dopod International, which sells phones using Microsoft's Windows operating system, will start shipping handsets using CDMA technology to Reliance Communications Ltd.

``We target to ship it by the end of July or early August,'' said Jack Tong, chief executive officer of Dopod, said today. ``It will be a very small quantity initially,'' less than 5,000. The phones will have a 2.8-inch screen and a built-in keyboard.

The company, based in Taipei, is also in talks to sell handsets using Qualcomm's code division multiple access, or CDMA, technology in New Zealand and provinces of China.

The sales will help San Diego-based Qualcomm weather a decline in revenue after Nokia, the world's biggest handset maker, said. It will stop development of mobiles based on the CDMA standard.

Qualcomm Chief Executive Officer Paul Jacobs said '`a small number'' of handset makers are complaining that the royalties were too high and the company will overcome the problems.

Great news after the launch of 6265!!

But lets not start a speculation again for its launch....Infact lets have a bidding for its launch....Like everyone pays for different launching date to rimweb and who ever wins will get a free one from rweb :)
