tanveer 59 Report post Posted September 28, 2006 Dear Customer, With reference to your mail regarding WAP surfing on Nokia 6265, please note that you will be able to browse Reliance Mobile World (R World) which offers you a whole host of content related service. However, currently you will not be able to access any non-Reliance WAP sites. We will inform you via SMS once this facility is made available to you. Yours sincerely,

mehtakushal 1 Report post Posted September 30, 2006 I was just surfing thru the Reliance Infocomm website. I found a new word doc. there--- about How To Use R-World in WAP enabled phones like Nokia 6265 and Nokia 6155. It had some general instructions about how to download, delete memory and all. But in the last line I found this:: Access to off-net sites and downloading applications/contents other than Reliance Mobile World is not permitted due “Walled Garden” approach. What is this Walled Garden approach?
Puneet 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2006 Walled Garden On the Internet, a walled garden refers to a browsing environment that controls the information and Web sites the user is able to access. This is a popular method used by ISPs in order to keep the user navigating only specific areas of the Web, whether for the purpose of shielding users from information -- such as restricting children's access to pornography -- or directing users to paid content that the ISP supports. America Online is a good example of an ISP that places users in a walled garden. Schools are increasingly using the walled garden approach in creating browsing environments in their networks. Students have access to only limited Web sites, and teachers need a password in order to leave the walled garden and browse the Internet in its entirety. The term walled garden also commonly refers to the content that wireless devices such as mobile phones have access to if the content provided by the wireless carrier is limited. docsinghal 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 I had raised the same point some time back. I'm not sure but i think that a service provider cannot discontinue a service without giving prior notice to the customers (as per TRAI rules). Now Reliance had initially allowed WAP and then they discontinued it without giving notice. Many of us had actually bought the phone after reading so much about the ability to surf then net etc. I really think reliance has broken some rules. Somebody with a better knowledge of TRAI rules can enlighten us. We really should fight this decision of theirs.
Puneet 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 If only you can get a document from Reliance which stated that off-net WAP access is enabled on 6265, can you approach some court/TRAI. All that we knew when 6155/6265 were launched was that they were WAP enabled and had WAP based R-World. It was not mentioned anywhere that you could browse the net on WAP. So Reliance can always contest and say that WAP worked in the initial days as they were still to put up their firewall and/or configure it. I do not think there is much to be gained, as the service was never commercially launched.

In effect, the walled garden directs the user's navigation within particular areas, to allow access to a selection of material, or prevent access to other material. An Internet service provider (ISP) may or may not allow users to select some of the Web sites contained or barred from the garden. Although the walled garden does not actually prevent users from navigating outside the walls, it makes it more difficult than staying within the environment. ISPs want to fence in users for a number of reasons. In 1999, for example, America Online (AOL) UK's Kid Channel established a walled garden to prevent access to inappropriate Web sites. However, a common reason for the construction of walled gardens is for the profits they generate: vendors collaborate to direct consumer's Internet navigation to each others' Web sites and to try to keep them from accessing the Web sites of competitors. KumaarShah 143 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Can any one provide me the procedure to use a NCP miniSD card on this 6265 phone. It shows unformatted every time, although it worked fine on my earlier LG6230 phone. I tried with Nokia SC, but they threw up their hands saying this make is incompatible with Nokia 6265. Finally, will a 2GB miniSD work properly on this phone? Someone had used it but will anyone provide a more clear picture on this 2 gb card? And yes, what would be the price of a 2 GB card. Thanks in advance..........
schumi 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 @khs There is no procedure to make the Mini sd card work on your handset. Its just that some cards work on it and some dont.Even I have contacted several people regarding this but no one has a confirmed answer to this problem. There are no problems in the Mini Sd cards but some cards just donot match with the handset. You need to try 3-4 cards before purchasing it.The problem is not only with NCP cards but also with other companies. Its strange but we have to live with it. Regarding 2gb cards, I think someone had mentioned that it works ok but I cannot confirm it because I have never practically used it.I think 1gb is more than enough but it depends on your needs. kepal 1 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 Friends, My 6265 has some problem with side button for direct camera mode, Yesterday I went to Nokia Service centre at Big Bazzar-Mumbai they simply told me to keep handset for 12-15 days irrespective of complain. They told me that it’s high handset so they will not attend across the table & they are not ready to give me any replacement handset for 12-15 days so in other words do Reliance – Nokia expect us to suffer with them as we bought such costly handset? When we face such type of problem we do feel that GSM is better then CDMA at least we can easily switch to other handset in case of such problem.
KumaarShah 143 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 Both Nokia and Reliance have taken us for a jolly good ride. There is no flexibility to use any make miniSD cards at all. You have to see which miniSd card will work on your phone and then buy it. God alone knows what to do if after matching, the miniSD card suddenly becomes "unformatted". No support is given by Nokia for 6265 and they have washed their hands off this model totally. The battery life is just about 70 to 90 minutes and nowhere near 3.8 to 4 hours as promised by their website. Nokia in an email advised me that this depends on various factors like network strength, user profiles, etc etc. As if Reliance's network strength is weak??? You never know, with Reliance though - all signal bars are shown but maybe the signal strength may be just 25 to 30 % only. I have been given a replacement battery as I complained about the poor performance. Lets see what is the performance of this new battery. Funnily, Nokia does not advise the proper method of charging a new battery unless you specifically ask them about it. The camera quality is not at all good if you use zoom. There are too many red or other coloured "spots" and you have to forcibly switch off zoom if you want decent photos or videos. Anyway, we all wanted something good to flash and so we have to bear with this. If something goes wrong, be prepared to wait for 15 to 20 to 30 to 40 days without a standby phone also, though technically one can remove the RUIM card and insert it into another RUIM enabled handset. But then how many such handsets are available? Why not Nokia and Reliance tie up and provide such standby services when both know the limitations of CDMA services. Thanks
Chirag 5 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 Got this handset about 10 days back for my sis. Must say it looks cool. Been using it with her Apple MacBook and transfering of files n stuff is just so simple with the bluetooth. Pics look good, and videos are equally sad! Took 10 days for the Reliance guys to get the number to transfer on this new handset!! I had to rack their brains thru for this whole thing. But finally i managed to snatch the rental waiver for those 10 days from these nuts! 100 bucks waiver was worth all that time i put on them!

What is this Walled Garden approach? I was wondering that since R Surf allows access to some sites like yahoo, google, etc. they should not be the so called off net sites. They should also be accessible from 6265. i tried all possible adresses but same error 503. Can somone find out the URLs of these permitted sites....atleast the WAP browser will have some functionality. Otherwise by upgrading to this phone we've even lost the use of R surf>

nitink 279 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 (edited) the prob got rectified the prob was with the drivers i uninstalled the earlier one ( d/l'ed from the cd) and downloaded a new set for CA 53 from the web on connecting the phone, the comp detected 6265, gave the link to the new drives atleast 4 times and bingo giving the driver link for the benefit of other members - Nokia provide a universal installation software for their USB data cables: Nokia connectivity cable driver. Though it comes with the Nokia PC Suite, we recommend installing this driver separately. It supports Nokia DKE-2, DKU-2, CA-42, CA-53, CA-70.
