joshj 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Hello everyone, I am about to come travelling in India from Australia. I wish to get wireless internet on my laptop but I have been told it is difficult to get without an address. Can anyone tell me how I can get it? The reliance website is useless - there is no order forms or anything there. Are there prepaid options available? Thank you, Josh
amtrag 20 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Its true that it is now a legal requirement to have an address to get any wireless connection. But you could get a wireless data card on a friend's or relative's address.

Din 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2006 I am about to come travelling in India from Australia. I wish to get wireless internet on my laptop but I have been told it is difficult to get without an address. Can anyone tell me how I can get it? As Reliance gives not just a wireless card but a voice + data card (you can make phone calls using that), that need an address proof, mostly copy of your passport will do, but check with some Reliance webworld. The reliance website is useless - there is no order forms or anything there. Check this - http://www.relianceinfo.com/webapp/Infocom...uctPersInfo.jsp Or email them, they may not sendyou reply instantly, but from my experience they reply for every email and they explain things in detail Are there prepaid options available? The wireless card (I think the cost is INR 4999 now), you have to buy, there is no prepaid option.
amtrag 20 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 Legal junk....hmm, unfortunately I'm not a terrorist but I still get punished.... Josh Right buddy. But the problem is terrorists don't roam around with "I AM A TERRORIST" written on their foreheads. And that is why we all, as a society, have to suffer...for our own safety. Anyway, coming to the point, they physically verify the address (the address in the passport in your case)...and only after positive verification, do they activate the connection. So passport or whatever...ultimately it is the correct & valid address that matters. And hence, I said in my previous post above, to use a friend's/ relative's address. joshj 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 Great response guys. So if I show my passport and they have to verify it physically in Australia, what does that mean? they will only send the network card there or something? Josh
amtrag 20 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 I don't think they accept any outstation address..leave alone international address. Still, don't know what is the policy regarding foreigners (which you are if you have a foreign passport).

rajeevjee 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 Dear Mr Joshj...Due to security measures (at each country now ), telecom connections are issued only after proper verification. In your case, since you are a resident of Australia, you cannot avail any telecom connection here in India. To avail a new connection, the only possibility is to make arrangements through your acquiantance in India to take a valid connection in his/ her name (the Reliance Wireless Data Card is also sold as a new Phone connection). The wireless internet connectivity is also available through Reliance Mobile phones and Landline phones. If any of your acquantance is already using a Reliance Phone, you may check for the Internet capability of the handset and use their set with the help of correct data cable on your laptop as long as you plan to stay here. By the way, what is the policy in Australia? If I wish to visit Australia and I have an Indian passport, would I be able to get a phone/ datacard connection?
