Arun 795 Report post Posted August 31, 2006 South Korea's Samsung Electronics demonstrates 4G mobile technology - Telecoms Korea 31 Aug 2006 08:34:00 GMT SEOUL: Korean electronics powerhouse Samsung Electronics Co Ltd said it has successfully demonstrated 4th generation (4G) mobile technology, the first in the world to do so. In the new technology, data transmission can be done at speeds up to 50 times faster than current mobile WiMAX technology. Samsung said the demonstration was carried out on a speeding bus and data could be transmitted between mobile transmitters and receivers at a speed of up to 100 Mbps. It takes about 2.4 seconds to transfer 100 MP3 files (300MByte), 5.6 seconds to transfer 1 Movie (800MByte) at speeds of 1 Gpbs. Don't get all excited just yet, though; those gut-wrenching speeds aren't expected to be commercially available until 2010. Even so, Samsung is hoping to somehow herd all of these cats, companies that will use this technology someday, hopefully alleviating another Blu-ray versus HD DVD-type scenario The new generation technology, featuring mobility, ubiquity, faster speed capabilities and convergence, is an upgraded version of existing wireless communications platforms and will pave the way for a ubiquitous era, according to Samsung The company's telecommunications network business unit president Lee Ki-tae said Samsung hopes to drive the development and standardization of 4G mobile technology with this successful demonstration, and to realize its dream of beginning the 4G era. The company will work with associated parties for the successful commercialization of 4G technology, he added. The International Telecommunications Union defines 4G technology as a future wireless telecommunications technology allowing data transfer rates of 1Gbps at nomadic circumstances and 100Mbps at mobile circumstances. The spectrum for 4G technology will be decided at the World Radiocommunication Conference in October of 2007. The 4G mobile communications format is expected to become commercially available around 2010. ... and add another 10 years to come to India :'(

shashank 8 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 (edited) Whole world will be fighting for 4G 5G......1Gb in 10sec.....5sec....and later may 10GB in 1Sec! But india will be unique.Even when all the countries introduce 5G,india will be fighting for 3G.Each time govt says'The pectrum will be resolved during the current parliament sessions' . Asusual next day's news paper we can see bold headlines stating'3G services in india soon' and at the end of the article each of the news paper says 'earlier Mr.Tata has earlier suggested a sum of Rs.1500 crore for 3G spectrum.' And this is another never ending cycle . Hope they end this cycle soon so that another cycle can be started! Edited September 1, 2006 by shashank
