abhay 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Why Sir Can u Explain : i dont play much games but i do know that its something related to response times of LCD they are tooo high for gaming << heard it from www.techtree.com they recommended if u wanna play games then take a LCD monitor which has the lowest response times
basant_jp 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 (edited) There are several reasons that makes LCD displays a second choice for gaming. Couple of major problems that I have experienced myself are - 1. Response time - CRTs have better response times. It refers to the time needed for the screen to update pixel colors. They are important for gaming and other fast moving images, like playing movies. Ghost or 'Trailing effect' will occur when certain pixels seem to lag behind the action. Well, most high end LCDs now offer very good response times (below 16 millisecond), which makes them generally acceptable for gaming. However, CRT monitors are better, because their response time are not noticeable to most users. 2. Viewing Angles - LCD monitors have a limited viewing angle. They are not clear at edges of angles, compared to CRT monitors. However, most high-end LCDs these days have corrected this problem to a great extent. A CRT monitor is way better (at present) when playing fast games but LCDs are definitely better in strategy games or word processing...and other such non-motion or limited motion things. In the times to come(not very long I would say), we will surely see LCDs having better or atleast equal response times compared to the age old CRTs. My own idea for 'today'- Use a CRT monitor if you are a hardcore gamer and can't live a day without it. Use an LCD if you play 2D games or if u work on things like word processors, 3D Max or Photoshop OR if you can spend good money on LCD having response times below 12 millisecond. Cheers! Ganesh 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 I agree with basant totally one can get LCD monitors with 3ms response too but they are costly and main issue is view angle
ssr 10 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 It seems no one using these monitors
petar 15 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 the problem in most LCDs used to be Ghosting images in games where graphics change very very fast. This has been addressed in newer LCD monitors n LVD Tvs. So i think that should not be a problem with this respect. What i would suggest is ..go get a DEMO. If u are satisfied with what u see,,, why bother asking what others feel.
ssr 10 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Ya think that's the only way left. But the prob is shop owners here, they wount give the demo.

kshah 452 Report post Posted September 4, 2006 even benq are good monitors, I have 17" 8 ms refresh. With very little distortion. I compared with LG and Samsung but found benq better. All LCD will have ghosting problem even if refresh rate is 3 ms, but smaller the time lesser annoying. Ensure that viewing ange is greater and has non reflective surface. Do not go for high reflective screens, which is very much in vogue these days. I forgot what they say to reflective screens.

If u read the full post as one instead of breaking into phrases, you would have got it. @SS_Rakesh- If am surpised u are not getting demos. Try going to newly opened store- they do anything to grab customers . Exhibitions/Fairs are also nice place to chek all this stuff.

Exhibitions/Fairs are also nice place to chek all this stuff. I donot know about u'r city, But here in Bangalore ppl wount keep these things in store. after placing the order they will get it from distributer or from some other city. I saw some stock only in computerwarehouse.(17") and when I went with my friend to buy a 17" monitor they refused to show a demo by connecting to a sys. I was like buying a TV without switching it on and just by looking at some powerless monitors and throwing some dice My first choice was VX922 which is fastest of all monitors and it cost around 20K I also saw its review in Toms hardware, But there no proper review for other monitors. 20.1" widescreen monitors gives lot of desktop space. Since all the widescreen monitors are 8ms i am little bit confused whether to go for that or not Exhibitions/Fairs-> I donot know when these this comes to bang. ssr 10 Report post Posted January 8, 2007 I forgot to tell which monitor I finally took. I was looking for VX922, But no stock in bangalore. Many shop ppl told that viewsonic stoped selling VX922 and they r now selling new 19" monitor in VP series (But that monitor was there from long time ) Finally I purchased Samsung SyncMaster 940BW (19" Wide screen, 4ms) for around 15.3k inc tax (2Months back) It is cool. This monitor has 2 connectors(one VGA and another DVI) I played Games like Half life 2, Supreme commander in fullsettings and wide screen and no ghosting at all It is having an option to use different settings for usage(Gaming, movie, custom, Internet, sports, Text). There is a button in the front panel from which the above modes can be selected quickly.

ssr 10 Report post Posted January 10, 2007 Go for ViewSonic 22" Wide it cost only Rs. 23000 It is VX2253 ( Widescreen and 5ms) I wanted to buy that monitor, but it costs aroung 25k here I was waiting for about 5 months for that monitor thinking that its price will drop bellow 20k. But it's price was droping just few hundreds per week. So I decided to buy just 19" and when the times comes(May be after few years ) I can upgrade to 30 or 40" monitor
